My girlfriend and I are getting married and we don't know whose last name to take mine or hers.  We also can't think of any other names.  For people who changed their last names how did you pick???

Why change ether?  Many couples keep their own names.  Or even hyphenate the last names into one.

When and if I get married, I am keeping my last name, after all I just got it.

I don't plan on ever getting married again. But if I do....I'll keep the name I have chosen.

I also have no planes to ever get married again... I don't wanna get into another committed relationship, but if it were to happen I think I would keep my last name for the sake of my children. If their mother gets remarried and I got remarried they might feel a little odd not being able to identify with their last name. At least until they get married (two girls).

I already don't have the same last name as my children.  I am not sure why my partner wants to change her name but I want to change mine because it was from a family I no longer have.  No one in my family has the same name so why keep it?  I got the name change forms years ago but I got stuck on the line "what would you like your new name to be..."  so I still have the form in my filing cabinet I never came up with a name so I never sent them in.

I am planning to get married soon and take my fiancee's last name. Since I am legally changing my entire name anyway it's the perfect time to get it all done.

Toss a coin.

Perhaps...

• ... combine the two.
• ... choose based on the 'worth' of family on that side, etc.

Or just flat out no change or something new?

I am changing to my SO's because it is the last name my kids have. I want to have the same last name as they do.
If you have nothing drawing you to one or the other you can start your own family name and create something, either a combo or something completely different.

Personally I would prefer the woman I marry to have mine. I like my last name. I have already changed name once and I know the inconvenience it caused me.. time to share some pain!
