I just got a new dog today. It's the first dog I've ever been able to claim as my own and I haven't lived with a dog for about 10 years now.  I have always wanted a dog of my own and since my ex got another cat for herself, I thought I would get a pet for me.  Her name is Simone and I got her from the humane society.  She is a sussex spaniel mix and she is 7 years old.  I look forward to having a great companion for a long time who will stay with me throughout the years of transition.  She is a very nice dog and so far has been great with the kids and the cats.  I love my dog.

       That is cool and strange. I found out that Mariah got a new dog today too. From a rescue shelter. It is some small thing, but it is loving. Phoenix, her Beagle who was only 5 had to be put down just this past Wednesday. He had diabetes and was blind all of a sudden. We tried the special food and insulin, he got better for a few weeks then just took a turn for the worse. I am not familiar with a "Susex" spaniel. Is it similar to a Britney Spaniel?

Thanks for all the replies everyone.  Marco, the Sussex (2 S's...well 3) Spaniel is about the same size and shape as a Brittany spaniel (we had one growing up), but a solid brown coloring and longer fur (which is currently shaved off for the summer) so it is a mix.  You can do a google image search for sussex spaniel and brittany spaniel to see what she looks like.  I don't have batteries for my camera at the moment, but I can post a picture as soon as I get some.

That's great news Melissa.  One thing with dogs or cats that is their love is unconditional.  She sounds really nice and the name you chose is darling.  I hope you will be togerther for a very long time.
