There's been at least one or two threads getting opinions on what exactly constitutes someone as post-op....  and most of them have a small handful of posts on FTMs before they go on for pages about MTF.

So, what do you think?  I just read someone bringing up altered hormones as the benchmark-- since testosterone shuts down the female reproductive system from producing estrogen, does that count?  Or is a hysterectomy required?  Is just top surgery enough?  I'm interested to hear everyone's perspective.

Post Op in my mind means "once you've done all the surgeries you intend to".
But it does require "surgery" to be done in the first place.
I'm thinking I'll count hystorectomy + top surgery to be all I'll do, and then, once I've done those, I'll be "Post Op".

I think that usually when people talk about post-op/pre-op they mean MTF:s.
I have no idea what makes FTM:s post-op. Hormones work better for FTM:s and the social environment is more acceptive so the genital surgery does not play so important role than for MTF:s.

For example using public restrooms is problematic in case you are MTF and still posses a penis but look just like woman in other ways.

In that case is totally open am I post-op or not. I may need FFS but I am not yet sure.  (I have to first recover from SRS)

I have a pretty specific definition which is used on the site. But basically it is as follows.

MTF Postop: HRT + RLT + Bottom Surgery
FTM Postop: HRT + RLT + Top Surgery. (Hysterectomy optional)

Okay, first of all, how the heck would other women in a women's restroom know whether or not you have a penis???

But really... I would think top surgery being completed would be post-op for an ftm. As I tend to eschew labels as well as I can, though, I'm not concerned.

Susan's definitions seem a bit archaic to me.  Now that SOC is becoming less popular and informed consent is gaining momentum, RLE isn't done anywhere near as often.  I know I never did it....  so despite everything else, I'd be deemed pre-op on this site.  Strange.

I understand people not wanting bottom surg, but hysto?  when there's strong medicial support saying they're necessary? And we had a high profile death to ovarian cancer/discrimination?  Hell no.  That makes no sense to me at all.

Yeah, i didn't do RLT either.  For FTMs i don't really think that exists.

I have  never chatted with or met a guy who has had to do the RLT or RLE.  I was wondering if it was something that is done as much in the US as other places?

No, the standards say 3 months therapy or RLT. And some doctors will just prescribe with informed consent. The reason apparently is that it's so hard to pass without T for some transmen. I, for example, could never have passed pre-T no matter what I wore. So I did T for 9 months before living as male.

However in case words should be used as they are generally understood post-op FTM is as post-op MTF meaning that the genital surgery has been complited. For MTF:s it needs to be SRS/vaginoplasty not orchi.

Well when some girls have their feet going the wrong way, visible under the crack at the bottom of the door, that is usually a dead giveaway.  I know it sounds stupid, but some are just dumb enough to do it.

Others talk about the difference between the sounds the urine stream makes.  A vagina has a definite hiss.  If you get freaked out over that, I suggest you say "shhhhhhh" every time you uninate when others are around.
