So next week is Pride Week in Toronto (if it doesn't get canceled due to the possible CUPE strike) and I'll hopefully be attending the first ever Trans March, as well as hopefully watching the Dyke March, as well as the ending Pride March.  My SO wants me to (rightfully so, and I of course agree) dress my part for all of these events.  I'm having some issues though.  Firstly I have a large Italian nose... I think it just screams "Hi I'm a ->-bleeped-<-" SO disagrees, not much I can do about it... I'll just always hate that part of myself.  Secondly, my eyebrows... I OBVIOUSLY need to get them done. Is it possible to get them done in a way that I can look like a woman when dressed, but still pass as a man when not?  Finally... BLUE! That's right... annoying blue on my upper lip  and such... HOW THE HELL DO I HIDE IT?! My SO dressed me up tonight for practice, Maybe I'll have her post the pictures she took of me so you guys can look it over and hopefully help me out... I'm... too much of a pansy to post them myself.

If its anything like PRIDE in SF, it will not matter, lots of people will look better, many will look worse, and some, well, they will get all the attention they crave.

The PRIDE march in S.F. is crazy. I've only seen pictures but I hope to attend one day. I'd say that if there ever was a time to not give ->-bleeped-<- this would be it, though Burning Man comes a close second.

Blue?

Yes blue. I suppose the best way to describe it is a 5 o'clock shadow-esque type thing... Worst part is I just shaved! I don't know if it's a reaction of the concealer my SO uses or what but it annoys the hell outta me.  I realise that it's Pride so I really shouldn't care, but the thing is... if I don't feel comfortable with my self at least a little.  I'm not sure I'll be able to muster the strength to go outside.

You can use two layers of different foundation to hide it pretty well if you really want to.  (You really don't need to for Pride, but you may want to for Adrianna. )

Go to a high-end makeup place at the mall, either a separate store or a counter in a department store - and have the person there make you up.  I did that at a MAC store before going full time.  The makeup guy spent an hour doing me up, chatting a lot about his TG clients.  He said that as I got my whiskers removed I could use less foundation (which has turned out to be true).  It was a little expensive because I bought everything he used, but it was a wonderful experience.

There are a couple of thicker foundations, both street makeup and stage makeup that is designed specifically to hide beard shadow.

But, yes, foundation will have to be kind of thick to hide the blue.

You can have your eyebrows thinned a bit through waxing.  Go to a salon and tell them you want them thinned out a bit.  Or you can pluck, it really doesn't take that much to give the impression of arched eyebrows without having to remove a lot of hair.

Adrianna, there are a lot of girls with roman noses, most of them are Italian.  Deal with it.  Two, you will look like a guy-in-a-dress if you FEEL like you are a guy-in-a-dress.  A woman believes in herself and her inner beauty.  It shows through every time.  Believe in yourself!  Carry yourself proudly and you will be beautiful!

My own experience going to a pride event was kind of "meh", but that's because I found out how much I don't fit in with the very-out LGB part of the community.  I just got a really clique-y feel of the place and I didn't know many people there, so maybe that would have given me a different impression.  But it was a learning experience, I can check it off my list of things to do sometime.  I heard a few bad things throughout the day, mainly from a few especially uptight-looking gay boys, but thinking back on it I heard many more affirming things.  I knew I didn't pass but what did I expect among the small group of other trans people I was with at a pride rally?

Basically.  If it's a larger LGBT pride event, you'll probably stand out a lot more for not dressing outrageously...unless that's your plan In that case, you're going to need at least a 3 foot tall rainbow mohawk if you're planning on sticking out.  Ok, maybe that's a tiny exaggeration.

And hon, there ain't nothin' wrong with your nose.  So many girls obsess about their noses.  Yours is fine!

Yeah, you want to thin your eyebrows out some, but it shouldn't take much.

Did you do your own makeup?  It looks a little on the light side, but depending on where you are going that may not be a problem.

Nice hair, that style looks good on you.  A little adventurous, a little edgy.

I'm not sure I would wear dangles with that outfit, but that's just me.  I prefer hoops mostly or understated earrings.

Find a nice necklace and you are good to go!

So many relationships do not survive transition.  So I am very happy that you support Adrianna in her journey.  Please know that this is a difficult time for everyone.  This is a transition for you as well.  But, unlike Adriana, you have not had your whole life to come to grips with it.  It is very understandable to feel confusion and other feelings.  The trick will be to communicate.  A lot.  Talk about everything.  Try to understand what she is going through, but also let her know what this means to you as well.

Also know that you have friends here too!  If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask.  You are our sister too, you know!

I can understand how scared she is.  She is/will be afraid that everyone is looking at her (they will)!  But she is probably worried that they are somehow judging her.  And really, hon, they really couldn't care less!  I went through the same thing.  She'll be fine.

You can change what is displayed in the profile section.  Select "Forum Profile" then "Modify Profile".  There should be a window where you can type in a the name that people will see.  It is just below your username entry, I believe.

Pride in NYC was awesome, I hope you have a blast.  I mean, I assume it was much the same as in SF- you could be built like a(n American) football player and be wearing a neon wig, and all you'd get would be back slaps and high fives and support.  It's an absolutely amazing feeling.  Everyone is so supportive and encouraging, if you 'look different' you'll only fit in more.

Umm wow.... You know looking at pictures of myself compared to looking at myself in the mirror are two different things.  Looking at the pictures I'm quite happy with how everything turned out.  Though I am for SURE going to Carol Baker to get my eyebrows done before Pride, as that MAJORLY needs work.  They look like that could hatch into moths at any moment and fly away!  I most likely will not wear those earrings with that attire.  I was wearing the first thing I could grab as the second I walked in the door Erica demanded that I "Get naked, and dress in your girl clothes ASAP!" which is when she surprised me with my brand new wig and then proceeded to do my make up.

I wasn't allowed to look until she was done.  Let me tell you those bloody clip-on's hurt like a bitch.  That is until I lost all feeling in my ears.  THAT is until the cat attacked the earring. >.<  Erica will always be the one doing my makeup as I'd probably poke my eyes out if I tried,  my hands shake a lot so...

Might I suggest that you get your ears pierced?  Your selection of earrings is much greater with the pierced variety than the clip-ons.  But you will feel it *a lot* when the cat grabs your dangles! 

In time my dear, you'll learn how to put mascara on while on a moving train.  Just don't do it while driving.  Also maybe you and Erica need a girls night in.  Where she shows you how to put your makeup on and then you do it.  Practice, hon, practice.  You're going to be a big girl soon and you had better learn how to do your own.

Ok, I was being a little kind when I mentioned that bit about thinning your eyebrows.  Carol may come at you with a weed whacker.

Married couples tend to look alike especially if they are really close.  So it doesn't surprise me at all.
