I haven't seen any topics about this yet. I kinda need a little help.

I've been dying my hair since around early April or so (of this year). I've been dying it raven black. My natural color is like a medium brown color. The first hair dye I tried was Revlon Colorstay or something like that. It didn't have that ammonia stuff in it and it didn't stay in my that long. It truly did suck for a hair dye. When I tried the more expensive hair dye it started taking better (the expensive stuff had ammonia in it). What I'm kind of stuck at is no matter how thoroughly I dye it by the two week mark after each dye streaks of my old hair color start popping up. I know it wasn't parts I had missed because right after the dye it will be nice and black but after a little while it starts streaking. Is it because the dye is getting washed out or does normal dye just do this? I'm still pretty new to the whole dying thing so I don't know any tricks or hints when it comes to dying. I think I need to start using some color friendly shampoo and conditioner because I'm using "Axe Just Clean" shampoo and it's pretty rough so it might be washing the dye out.

Ok so I just went on with like a small life story of my hair dying experiences. Sorry. I was just wondering if there's something I could be doing wrong as for why my hair doesn't stay black.

Are they any recommended hair dye products to use? I've tried a lot of them at least once and didn't really find one that really did anything better than the others

Oh and does anyone else here dye their hair? lol

Garnier is good. I personally don't care for Revlon.

Don't wash your hair 24 hours before dyeing it. Boxed dyes have issues sticking to hair that has been recently cleaned.

To make sure the color stays you have to make sure you dye it properly. Leave the dye on as long as the instructions say. Before rinsing off apply a small bit off water and rub in until the product lathers up. Let sit for a minute, then rinse out completely (don't use hot water just warm). After that don't wash your hair again until 24 have passed.

That's what the instructions say too. About the 24 hour period before and after thing. Sometimes after dying my hair I go 48 hours til shampooing it again. I don't know if that's good for it or not though. Last time I dyed it I completely forgot to lather it up and let it set for five minutes before completely washing the dye out. That might've had something to do with it

different people's hair takes the dye differently. I'm lucky as in my hair is friendly towards,.. well.. anything I might want to do with it.

If you find a certain hairdye isn't working for you, then switch.
If you find that many dyes aren't doing the job properly, your hair may have a hard time taking colour and you might want to either dye your hair twice as often, or spring for the salon-job.
If that doesn't work... I'm out of ideas.

(Also, make sure you alternate your shampoos!)

I always dye my hair at professional hair salon. It's not expensive here, about US$50. In my case, the dye never get washed out. But, as hair grows, I need to dye again every 6 months. Of course, hair dresser reminds me that I should shampoo my hair at least in 24 hour after dying.

Hairdyes products are very damaging to hairs and their roots. This is why I do not dye so frequently. One of my colleagues was diagnosed as alsopecia areata, and he dyed his hairs every month. I said to him that kind of frequnecy is a crazy thing.

Even I dye my hair every 6 months, my hair became strikingly thin and infirm. I can see the contrasting thickness difference between the old and regrown part of my hair.

A hairdresser said that there are some specialy hairdye products that dye each hair above 1 mm from the hair root to protecting the hair root and scalp.

If your hair indeed get washed out, then you may try coating or hair manicure products at hair salon. I also tried them, but I did not see any noticeable difference, and do not use any longer.

In my country, it is not so much expensive at hair salon. Dying + Hair manicure = about US $70 for my long hair that once reached my waist. Nowadays, as I have shorter hair, the expected cost is < $50.

About six months ago, I got my hair dyed, but I have no plan to do again in the near future. To protect my hairs.

When is it a good time to stop the dying for a while? My mom told me that eventually I'll have to stop dying and let new hair grow in so it doesn't do any damage. I'm just not sure when this should be done though

What I hear is wait 3 months between dyeing your hair to give it time to recover and you should be fine. Of course everyone is different and the chemicals may cause problems for them so they'll need to wait longer.

If you want to get it fully healthy you need to let your hair grow out and cut off the dyed part.
