I have been asked to speak with the LGBT community at the County Building in Olean, NY on 15 July at 1:30 in the afternoon.  The address is the county building at 1 Leo Moss Drive in Olean.

Directions are real easy to here.  From 390, you get off at the Dansville exit and head south on 36 until Hornell where you connect with I86.  Go west.  Continue to exit 25, Buffalo Street.  Go left, under the expressway and RR tracks.  Firt right is Leo Moss Drive.  Go to the parking lot at the front of the building, through main doors, security (leave as much medal in the car as you can!!)  Go to 2nd floor and turn left.  There is a double door, go throug that, at the end of the hall take the door on the right (there are 3 doors, County Court, exit and us).  That is our waiting room and the girls will connect with me.

Olean went well.  Most of the people in the group are just starting their journey - and many have other serious issues as well. 

Emeley drove in and joined the group.  She had some wonderful things to add.  Once the transgender group left, several of the mental health professionals in the audience stayed to ask questions of both of us.

Several people were surprised to learn that I have been full time for less than a year, given how easily and confidently i could speak about my transition.  Others said that I woud make a great counselor.

I feel that I am on the right path.  Yesterday reinforced that feeling.

It feels incredibly good giving back to the community like this.  I took so much for so long...  I think I beamed the entire trip home.

God has blest me greatly - blest me with wealth and riches in abundance.  I have my kids standing with me.  I have friends by my side.  And I have a path to follow.  What more could I ask for?

I think maybe the best possible outcome for me would be to have the opportunity to use my experience to communicate and promote understanding about this - especially with the mingled background I have (Conservative Christian/Transsexual)

I have no idea how to get there, or whether it's computable with actually keeping the lights turned on...but one thing I have picked up on already is that it's a lot different for a person to say, in the abstract, "I don't believe in X" than it is to meet X and see her face and consider the real person behind the abstract concept.

I agree with you that getting a chance to stand up and let your voice be heard and make a difference in people's worldview in Olean is of inestimable value and I'm so happy for you.

I'd love to be similarly blessed some day.

I'm happy that things went well, Shauna. It's great to speak to others about transiiton. I spoke with my bible fellowship about transgender issues last month.
