"We wanted it to be a surprise," says grief-stricken Olga. "We wanted this baby very much."

The baby was born on time. The young mother could barely contain tears when she heard the cry of her firstborn. However, Olga could not understand why the doctors delayed bringing the baby to her.

Several hours after the delivery, the doctor attempted to explain to the new mother that her baby was born a hermaphrodite. The newborn possessed both male and female characteristics.

Ya, let's sensationalize it and put in the news of the weird section as if this was the first time it ever happened.

Good grief, it sounds like they'll perform surgery based on a genetic test!  I'd at least wait until the child was a little older to see which mental gender is exhibited.  Imagine how the poor soul will feel if they get it wrong - not only do you have the wrong body now but you used to have the right one before!  Ouch!

Like finewine said, what a potential disaster in the making. Hopefully someone who knows something about gender advises them that genetics do not necessarily predispose one to having a particular gender identity.

I love how people make it sound like being intersexed is a BAD thing. No wonder so many people think it is, that's all anyone hears. God forbid- should a child be born deaf to never hear that crap.

Being intersex has been treated as a shame to the family and the person with the condition. Because its not "normal" (read it standard) So then they do sad and harmful things like "normalizing" without thinking.

When will the F$%/% doctors start thinking and be sure that gender its NOT constructed just like that. Chromosomes cant tell you the gender, neither sex. Its only after the baby can speak for him or herself.
