Video Games anyone?

I've been playing video games for over 20 years, and while my time to play them has diminished, my enjoyment of the medium and interest in the industry still goes strong.

I started with an NES at 7, which basically glued me to Nintendo consoles and games. For the most part, Miyamoto's work sculpted my interests. That is, Mario games hooked me on platformers, Zelda games determined the type of adventures I enjoyed, etc. Pajitov's Tetris blew my mind and gave me an affinity for anything with falling pieces. And finally, a friend introduced me to RPGs in my freshman year of high school, starting with Secret of Mana. By the end of the year, I'd devoured it, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, Chronotrigger and Super Mario RPG.

Overall, my interests aren't too different from others with a similiar gaming history or introduction. This does pain me though in that it seems the industry in general no longer significantly caters to gamers like me. The hottest genres are all those which I don't care for: sports, racing, "urban" sandbox, and shooters (both first- and third-person). I know the kind of games I like are still being made, but I recognize they no longer define the industry as they had in the past.

Games I look forward to now include A Boy and His Blob (gorgeous!), Metroid: Other M (striking!), The Last Guardian (need a PS3!), Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (still need to play Partners in Time!), and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (such a long wait!). In the meantime, though, even with my kind of games only coming around every once in a while, my limited playtime has left me very behind, so I'll always have something to play. . .whenever I peel myself off of World of Warcraft, that is.

(Quick note: Wii owners without Boom Blox. . .play it now! Rented it last weekend; will likely buy the sequel soon.)

I like video games, but I'm into the classic ones, the 2D kind, since I'm ancient :) Anyway, I used to program for a major game company and that was a pretty cool experience.

Has anyone played Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the DS? It's a weird hybrid of traditional and strategy RPG, and it has more strategic depth than any game I've played. It's quickly becoming one of my favourite games ever.

Killer Instinct

SPINAL!!!
You got Killer Instinct: Gold on N64? Best one I think
Give me Spinal and it's done.
They need to either remake the series or release another installment into the series, just think about it, online play on Xbox 360. If people can buy SF4 and like it then those who love fighting games would so eat up Killer Instinct, I mean come on it's that awesome! Well that and Eternal Champions, and we all can't forget Marvel vs Capcom 2 now can we?

Hehe, I like the original arcade version the best although it was a bit buggy. The SNES port is the one that I play, never played the second version. Yea, I wish they would bring this back and actually people pester RARE all the time about it, but I don't think we'll ever see it unfortunately.

I love fighting games and they are experiencing a resurgence at the moment. Alas, we may never see the day that Spinal suits up and heads back out to the fighting arena  >:( :'( :embarrassed:

Yes, I absolutely LOVE video games (as you can probably tell from my screenname)...

I'm a bit one-sided in my video game interests though, as I only play Nintendo, not PS or Xbox. I don't have anything at all "against" the other brands, I've just always been a huge Nintendo fan, and it's kind of a hobbie for me that goes beyond just playing the games to include collecting as well.

I have the NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube, Wii, DS (all 5 home systems, but currently only one portable system, I miss my original GameBoy soooo much). I collect games for all of them, play them all fairly regularly (although the NES and SNES most often of them all), and I collect Nintendo-themed shirts, action figures, and other Nintendo-collectibles (mint tins, PEZ dispensers, etc).

The games that I love the most are: Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 (and actually almost all Mario games in general); Donkey Kong Country; ALL Zelda/Link games; most Kirby games; most Harvest Moon games; RC Pro-Am; Darkwing Duck; and many, MANY more... :)
♫ Oh give me a home, where the trans people roam, and the queers and the androgynes play... ♫

City of Heroes. Tried it in beta and it was pretty awful. Much better now.

I would have loved to try that out but I never could afford the commitment.

I have spent many hours with this guy though:

Playing Left 4 Dead like almost every time I get the chance. Who doesn't want to shoot massive running zombies trying to take a bite out of you? It's tons of fun.
