Hi everyone.  im rather new to this site, in terms of being active atleast as i have been reading post for a long while, but havent actually posted much myself.  anyways hi everyone ;-p  I have a question in regards to hormones. I have been living full time for almost a year now.  I would post a picture however it wont let me do an avatar thing so soon.  Im starting hormones in a little more then a week.  I know we arent suppose to discuss dosaging and stuff but my question is this, he said that he would be giving me hormones shots and i had the option of going in and getting the shots every 2 weeks or 1x a month.  im thinking more along the lines of 1x month if i have to go in since i travel alot. but i really dont hear of many girls even being given that option, is it not as effective? is it better that i go in 2 times a month?  i asked him he said it was the same...  any thoughts, suggestions or comments greatly appreciated.

are you a trans guy or girl? if you're getting testosterone injections, 1x a month sounds a little too far inbetween. i don't know for estrogen.

Hey Flygirl,

At 15 posts your profile features open up, as does PM and picture posting.

I'd go twice a month because the levels vary drastically. Mood swings are common and I really don't see how they can make a shot last all month. I don't even trust the 2 week thing. I do a shot weekly to keep the levels up and level.

To do it correctly bi-weekly is more like it, less more often is definitely better so get used to the idea of doing it yourself. I suppose it's quite understandable why doctors are reluctant to prescribe that way but if one thinks of IM's as having a 'half-life' just like administering a pill or patch the reasoning becomes obvious . . .

Do you like giving yourself shots (the buttocks being best by-the way)?

I'm having a difficult time deciphering that sentence I highlighted in red. Can you state it another way? Or explain to me what you meant?

Do I like giving myself shots? I don't really think about it in that light. I see it as it's going to turn me into a girl and I look forward to them. As far as physically doing it, I have no issues with wiping an alcohol patch on my butt and jamming a needle into it. I've done it so many times now Its just a thing I do on Friday's. Feed the cat, clean the kitchen, get my shot, answer email. Its like brushing my teeth. It is just something that needs to get done and it gets done. I don't like or dislike it. I like what it is doing to me.

I wish I had the opportunity to try shots? in the U.K injectable HRT is not licenced and there are no outlets to purchase the stuff. I've only ever been on pills and patches but I think injectable HRT would work better?  :(

You don't know how lucky you are in your country to have 'shots' licenced and readily available. Over here they are not licenced and I've had constant arguements with the authorities to get them over here.

what type of hormones are you taking? pills, patches or cream?  Can you maybe order them online from an out of country supplier, or is it illegal in your country.  I wonder why the authorities are so against hormones via injections??

I've been on pills, patches and Gel for 10 years and they don't seem to work for me. Injectable HRT is my last resort but in the U.K injecatables are not licenced. I don't know why you can't get them in this country but because of the red tape I will have to buy them from another country and hope they get through customs ok and then work out how to inject myself.

I think one of the anti - androgen's is legal in this country but illegal in the states, so different countries have different rules which make it very difficult for people who are in transition.

I've done pellets (from 1 every 3mo, 4 mo, 6 mo, 1 year, 1.5 years), shots 1x/mo and 2x/mo, orals (sublingual and ingested) and different types of progesterone cycling and every combination in between. Now I'm on a Estro-patch/shot 2x/mo regimen.

After all that...My fav for convenience was pellets. For safe dosages, my fav is my patch/shot combo I'm on now. Personally, I didn't see much of a difference between 1x/mp and 2x/mo shots, but 1x was much better from a convenience standpoint.

In the end... I think they're just different ways of skinning a cat. Go with what's most convenient, comfortable, and affordable to you.

Pellets are also not licenced in my country?

Never heard of HRT pellets being accessed on the NHS. The only pellets I've found are on the NHS are anti - androgens like Zoladex.

they were hrt, precribed at St Saviors hospital around 8 years ago we only had a long discussion the other day over it when she was inquiring my injectible doses so yes they are around if you look.
  •

lacitychick21

Yeah... they are definitely around. Apparently, I had too many implanted and my estro levels skyrocketed. I didn't take any additional estrogen for more than a year and a half before my estro levels returned to numbers resembling normal.
