One of my step sisters passed after battling cancer for eight years. No one in my family bothered to let me know until after the funeral. I got an e-mail. They have always been like that. Oh yeah....last week....or so.....

I am so sorry, Hon.  It is all to common that we get left out of the family when we transition.

But I'm not part of a pity party. They have been like that long before I decided to transition. Maybe they could tell early on. I knew in my childhood. Why wouldn't they? It hurts all the same

And the worst part is, you can't even choose them.

That's awful, Virginia, for them to wait until after the funeral.  

At least they're not treating you any differently than before you transitioned.

It seems like family can hurt us more than others.

I can relate Virginia, won't go into why. Hugs from me too. I am sorry this happens to you and hope it helps that you have us.

First, I'm sorry for your loss. And also for the callous way you were treated.

My mother is older, and I couldn't get her on the phone, even late at night, and she never goes out late. So, I drove almost an hour to her condo, expecting with every mile to find her dead on the floor when i got there. But she wasn't there at all. Finally, I used her phone to call my brother--the same one who hasn't spoken to me since he found out I was transitioning, in 2004--and his wife answered. She goes, "oh, mom's in the hospital. Didn't anyone tell you?" Like who, Casper the friendly frigging ghost?

Oh, that's horrible, I'm so sorry. My aunt died of cancer, it's never nice.
