I'm not sure the difference between a habit and an addiction. Ok if I make a habit of smoking anything it's an addiction.
But when I put my clothes on I always put my left leg through my panties, pants, stockings etc. Never the right. I deliberatley tried it tonight; jees I have fun friday nights . It felt odd, in fact I took my clothes off and went back to the left side. I always put my (albiet tiny) right boob into my bra and settle it first.

I always put my eye makeup on the left first and never the right, and again when I did the other way around tonight it felt so odd. Now I realise many of you wish to tune into the new reality show of " What does Cindy do on a Friday Night" with such stunning revelations. But do other people act this way and if so why?

Guess who doesn't have a date tonight. :'(

This is something we discussed in an anthropology class I took once.  Believe it or not, there are entire books written on the subject.  :D  And though we usually don't think too much about it, most of us have these little rituals.  We take a shower the same way every time.  We brush our teeth in the same order.  I guess if we didn't automate the process we'd always be forgetting one part or another.

Can you imagine how annoying it would be if you had to consciously decide on every little step?  Lessee. Soaped the arms, the chest, the face, the legs, the feet. Washed the hair.  Rinsed the hair.  Conditioned the hair.  Rinsed the hair. Rinsed the feet, the chest the arms the face.  Damn.  Forgot to rinse the legs.

A lot of these habits are just prefered ways of doing things that settle into habits.  I usually put my right shoe on before the left, but if the left is available and the right is somewhere else, I'll put the left on first.

That said, I wonder about you Cindy if after putting your legs in your clothes a different way you had to take them off and put them on again to feel all right.  To me that borders on OCD.  What's up? ???  (  Now, if I put my t-shirt on backwards I'll take the arms out and spin it around, but that's normal, right? :eusa_whistle:)

Don't get too set in your ways, even the little ones. :D

Darn it, now I'm going to be thinking about this when I get dressed in the morning... Thanks Cindy!

A little side joke here that I thought of when you mentioned panties...

On day I asked my brother if he had holes in his underwear. said "No." So then I asked him "Then how do you get your legs through?" .... He punched me.

I wonder were they come from. Since you are all in the USA, I've come across baseball players who eat the same meal before everygame, gridiron punters in particular seem to have rituals.I can see Jaime's point that if we didn't have habits we wouldn't get basic stuff done but I wonder were we learn them. BTW Jaime, that class sound a hoot .

And kate accusing me OCB, she types, twirling her hair and sucking on a thumb; which make typing really difficult

Cami, how long did it take to get dressed today?

And as for Virginia, how do you know which hand to use? I'd be confused, does the left hand know what the right hand is doing!

LoL

Oh my "Dear Lord Goddess" such fodder....
It sounds like my dear sister has been smoking, something.

IT BURNS, IT BURNS, Please make it stop.
I have thought it an I just can not UNthink it.

I have this inexplicable need to know, were you, in fact doing "The Hokey Pokey,
while you were doing what ever it was, that you were doing with
your right leg and are you thusly addicted?

As I sit here, contemplating soaking my head in a bucket of bleach water,
attempting to erase the mental imagine that is now playing on an endless loop, in my head,
I am reminded, that in a post a few months back, you stated
that you thought we "Americans" are weird.

Modern psychology has recently made enormous strides
in the treatment of such debilitating afflictions.

Do not lose hope, my dear, poor, sweet sister, we are here for you.

"I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So let's make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we're together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?" - Fred Rogers

Have you been watching my webcam? >:(

And I do not suck my thumb when typing.  It gets the keyboard all gunky. :icon_blah:

Thanks to you, Cindy, I put my left shoe on first this morning just to see how it would feel.  It seemed a little strange but I only took it back off again because I changed my whole outfit.  (One of those mornings. :P  Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it! :icon_redface:)

I have this really bad addiction to eating at least once a day. I know it's an addiction because when I don't do it I get all crabby and physically weak and stuff. I even do it sometimes when no one is watching or when I'm alone.  :-\

I have a habit of cracking my back, knuckles, arms and legs...IDK why! I just do it like every couple of hours. Even though I am young, my back hurts a-lot and it's been like that even at a young-young age.

Does banging one's head on the keyboard count as a habit, addiction, or doism?  :eusa_wall:  Or maybe it is the way I type.  With my nose. ???

I usually just jump into panties, skirts, pants and/or nylons with both feet at once.  Don't try this at home, kids, I am a train professional.

Typing with your nose can be fun for awhile. But not a recommended practice unless your a trained professional

ya know, I should probably acquire that one.

Probably would help with the withdrawal symptoms I'm dealing with right now...

---------------------------------------

On a more personal and decidely serious note, addictions are something our community has a great issue with that caue grave problems and affect our quality of life in ways that are not positive.

So I support efforts to deal with and address serious issues of substance abuse within the community like This Is H.O.W., which I am no longer affiliated with (well not directly at least, lol, I quit as chair of the board back in April).

Organizations like that deserve your support -- and probably a few bucks even though we are all tapped all the time.

Take a moment, and send them five dollars. I do it, and I get 400 a month total.

I know return you to your regularly scheduled non begging for charitable causes with an apology -- I couldn't help it, it just escaped from me like rats from a sinking ship....
Thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunky world, make, each of us, one non-flunky, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Thomas Carlyle)

Dear Heatherrose,

At last I can reveal the truth. It's not the Hokey Pokey, it's an ancient Australian fertility dance; known as "Virgin on the Ridiculous".
Be careful with soaking your head in bleach, it can send you clean around the bend.

I've now got an image of Janet jumping into panties, pants and a skirt +/- stockings. Now if that isn't a doism what is , when do you decide to shed the skirt or pants? Or is this playing on the safe side. "Janet today is modelling jeans with a tutu" This new fashion has been by passed by parisee, but up and coming American starlets are cutting new ground.

And Kate, you have trapped yourself , and proved yourself totally female. Mmm I look nice in this but what about... three hours later; Mmm I think I liked what I started with. Meanwhile boyfriend is in another room, thinking, Why do women take so long to get dressed?

BTW this was all meant as fun, and not into the serious side of addictions etc

Luv
Cindy,
Now did I type that or imagine that I typed that
