Let it first be understood that sex is not gender, and that I am assuming that DD readers are familiar with the terms transsexual and transgender. These definitions were definitely influenced by Julia Serano, but my mom still has my copy of Whipping Girl so I can't cite probably. (And if you haven't read Whipping Girl yet, I implore you: do it, do it, do it.)

Alright:

- cissexual: not transsexual; having a subconscious sex and a physical sex that have always been aligned

- cisgender: not transgender, not genderqueer; having a sex that aligns with one's social gender (i.e. female/feminine/woman or male/masculine/man)
