The quirky move is part of a makeover for Wellington launched yesterday at the Beehive by Prime Minister John Key and Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast.
It would see the replacement of traffic lights in Aitken St so that green flashing women, instead of men, indicated when it was safe to cross the road.
