it seems like the head and surrounding area are dry.  it has started to itch.  could this be because of growth, since its not hiding in its little protective cocoon?

boxers or boxer briefs.  sometimes commando. :P

Hmm ... You might want to consider some sort of soothing lotion, or since it's new growth, something designed for healing skin.

Also fapping too much can irritate it.

i stopped wearing boxers because the seams would rub on my junk and it would chaffe.  try to go boxer briefs only for a week or so and see if that helps.

I just wear tighty whiteys myself, I'm not sure I get the whole boxer-brief thing myself .... also I get some undies are less likely to rub anyway, smoother fabric etc.

Hey Josh,

I seem to have the same problem.  For me, it doesnt matter if I wear briefs or boxer briefs mine still feels uncomfortable when I walk sometimes.  Mine is also quite dry...

I guess these things are used to being sheltered, lol, and now they have to deal with open air AND it's new growth. Read my post above, padding that puppy with something really soft really helped.

OMG! XD

Also, remember that "skin" its actually mucose. So going out of the protection can do the drying.

Mine hasn't been dry at all, but it was really sore and sensitive for a couple months.  That seems to be going away now.  (I wear boxer briefs, since we're all sharing.  ;) )

right. :)  boxer briefs when i wake up then.  the experiment begins!

I may get some boxer briefs too, since my tighty-whities are turning into tighty-yellowy-linties, lol. I need some unders in colors anyway.

I had that problem with regular boxers, now I am back on boxer briefs and it's better.

If I may, gentlemen.  Try baby powder.  Help with chapping.  Also try one of the powder lotions.  Your problem could be from just the chapping from your underwear.

Um, er, how do I say this?

A little fungus called Tinea spp is responsible for athlete's foot, jock itch, and well, that stuff can occasionally bother other parts of the body too. I've become knowledgeable about it due to my old gym which I just quit. Tinactin, in the blue can, is for jock itch (red can's for feet and I've not tried that, I use the blue can on my feet) and you might try that .... it may be a real thrill to spray it right on little Willie, you may try spraying on your fingers then apply if that's too much. Yes it will make your willie white and not great to look at but the relief should be immediate.

Bio-guys it turns out get all kinds of problems with well, look up "monkey butt". It's due to all those parts hanging out there, movement, chafing, sweating, etc. Use of a powder of some type is very common it turns out. There's even a "monkey butt" powder lol.

This is just another part of becoming a man .....

I don't know... to relate it to bio-guy terms, mine's more of a grower than a shower, so I don't usually have to worry about underwear rubbing up against it and causing problems. I have noticed, though, that when I use a particular brand of fabric softener on my undies (boxer briefs, if anyone's keeping track), it becomes irritated to no end. Apart from that, though, I haven't noticed any dryness, and only had pain during the first 3 months or so of growth.

It sounds analogous to what a genetic guy has to endure post-circumcision.  The previously protected, moist skin underneath needs to "acclimatise" to being an external surface.

BTW I went and got myself a bunch of boxer briefs, I'll see how these work out for me.

I get the impression I may be in for, in a few months, what you guys are going through now.

Since fungus was mentioned...

Sleeping naked can help prevent that, and lets the new growth get a rest from chafing against "fabric you are wearing".
