I am sorry if this has been discussed before.  I wonder if anyone has ever ventured out in public in their alter ego and accidentally met or saw someone that they knew. 

Did they recognise you?
Did you speak with them?
Did you get away with out them realising it was you?
How did you feel?

All the time, for all SF is a cosmopolitan place, its still very small, only 49 square miles, 25% of which is parkland.  And the clubs are more or less in districts/areas clustered together, so the odds of running into people you know are high.

But everyone knows about me, so its no big deal, and here that sort of thing doesn't even stand out, what's wearing a dress at the Folsom Street Fair, it means you are the only person who is modest pretty much.

Once at a gay/lesbian disco I met the accountant of the firm we both worked for. He was in the closet and got a big fright, but I reassured him and we became good friends.
An other time at the bar of a small local pub I saw a project manager I dealt with as part of my job. He didn't recognised me. A few day latter I asked him if he drank often in that place, he couldn't make out how I had seen him and he hadn't seen me.

Only on Halloween last year, so I don't think that really counts.

As I always wear women's clothes even at my work place, it would not be a surprise. But, I do not wear skirt or heels at my work place, and my wearing heels can still surprise some people.

Last year, I heard that some people at my workplace saw me wearing heels in beach. They can recognize me whatever I wear, as I am so much noticeable. In one case, the teenage daughter of my male colleague first recognized me among a crowd near the beach, as I had sometimes met his family. Not sure if it counts. my Ex dragged along to a fancy dress party. all the girls there complained about the injustice of a bloke looking better in a mini then them.

I frequently wear women's clothes to work, but in a subtle way.

I might wear a shirt or sweater or shorts that I got from the women's section of a clothing store, but they're somewhat unisex. I got a compliment on a scarf of my wife's that I wore yesterday with a woman's pull-over shirt.

I don't wear breastforms or makeup, and haven't tried skirts or dresses. My ideal default look would be androgynous anyway.

Shazz, I think that would be the ultimate win, looking better than women in a mini skirt.

Thank you, I've "got the legs for it". Mind you that's all I have got left, I've put on a bit of weight since then. I might get away with dressing up as the goodyear blimp

John an ex boss of mine was introduced to me in a pub (the same pub I had been drinking in with him in man-mode a few days earlier) and he did not recognise me - however he is my only friend who has not been able to accept the new me so it may be denial rather than anything else.

As I am Annette all the time when not working and I work in a Supermarket I see customers I serve quite often - most do not recognise me - if they are regulars I will usually say hi to them.

Most will say how good I look.

A few weeks ago, a guy I used to work with walked straight past me.   He obviously did not recognise me in girl mode.

I think a female colleague would have been far more observant.

One time I was at a red light and at the corner next to my car were a group of guys. One of them was someone I was friends with. He started to talk to me and tried to get me to pull over because it was his and his friend's birthday. They were a little inebriated. He didn't recognize me. Funny - wonder what his reaction would have been if he knew that he was trying to get one of his guy friends to 'party' with him and his group of buddies.

I was at wal-mart the other day, I had just gotten directions to where the bra extenders were in fabrics and was reaching for one when "Hey malename."

I was wearing a womens's suit, like is common for me (I'm actually poor as a hell and the only pants that fit me are slacks and my blazer is the only light coat I own...) and my bra, which makes my breasts very not hidden, but I was wearing a non low cut top. We talked about the depressed economy and poor wages and blah blah etc. And then he went back to work.

Course, I'm not a crossdresser, I'm several months into transition. Being that I'm going to school as a girl, people are seeing me - some recognize me, some don't, some don't say anything and avoid me.

I have to say that with these experiences, I am nearly ready just to head out and not worry about what might be said. My wife says I act "like a girl" anyway. In fact, while riding my bike, some guy yelled at me "dude, you ride like a girl". Actually, I am pretty slow compared to the girls that fly by me but, except for being called a dude, it was pretty funny.
