The world is often divided into the two sexes, but where do those born with an uncertain gender stand?

Leaked alleged results of gender verification tests reportedly show that South African 800 metres champion Caster Semenya lacks a womb and ovaries, but has male and female sexual characteristics.

Like society, competitive sport has always been divided into male and female, so international athletics bosses now have to work out where to place Semenya.
