Fairfax, VA, USA. If God is perfect and transsexuality exists, then transsexuals must be the work of the devil, for a perfect God could never create an imperfect human. But transsexuals do truly exist and there is no sign of Satan. Baptism did not wash away my imperfect transsexuality as it did the stain of original sin.

I was sinless but imperfect until a surgeon's knife resolved my embodiment.

As transsexuals exist, however imperfectly, then the God of perfection created transsexuals as He intended with the neurobiology of one sex and the physical genitalia of the other.

I'm not sure I follow the author's reasoning very well but it seems a false premise.

Just because God is perfect (assuming for the sake of the discussion one postulates such a God) does not imply that everything he allows to exist will be perfect. That's a simplistic conclusion.

Even more so the idea that any imperfection is thus the work of the Devil.

But mostly, I'm just confused - is she serious? Satire? Parody?

It's not clear to me what's going on there.

The following is based on what I learned being brought up Catholic.

"God does not make mistakes.  If we perceive something to be imperfect then our view is flawed because that something is as God intended."

As far as the author's intent, it sounds to me she is taking what is being thrown at her from religious people and trying to turn it around as proof transsexuals are as God made them.

If god is perfect, and makes people, then the people he makes are perfect, even transfolk, and it's just another set of situations to test the strength and bravery and hearts of men and women.

This is absolutely the most asinie attempt at theology I have seen in quite a while.  Why, for instance does she single out transsexuality apart from all other birth defects?  She apparently has no concept of some of the basic tenets of the Christian faith, as shown by her web site.

Lisa was well educated in Catholic theology btw, that's in the footnotes.  It's a send up by someone who is now agnostic.

'tis interesting that you quote Augustine as a sig. since he referred to the transsexual priestesses of Cybele as "castrated male perverts" but as a side note most scholars believe the Pagan woman referred to in "Confessions" was a transsexual priestess of Cybele who rejected him eventually so his motives for doing so are questionable.

Really?  I don't see a note to that effect anywhere.  Perhaps I missed it.  All I have found is about some of the Gnostic writings.  Interesting stuff, but certainly not Catholic.  I also see nothing in the writing to indicate any understanding of theology, other than as a badly done analogy.

As far as Augustine, I would be happy to discuss him with you at some time, but not in this topic where it is definitely off topic.

why do people always think that their idea of perfection is the same as God's? People have lots of crazy ideas but as far as I can tell, all of creation is born perfect in it's own way, and that includes birth defects such as being born transsexual. It's only humans who try to pervert that into something less. Many regurgitate the scripture that God's ways are above our ways, and in the same breath then try to cram God into their own fixed little boxes. God doesn't require that we understand everything She's doing.
