So I had a visit with my old therapist to talk about getting a letter for SRS. I haven't been to her for about 2 years since I stopped so I could start saving for FFS at the time. I was worried that she would want me to come in again for a while before she'd give me the go-ahead for the letter, but she told me bluntly that she sees no need to see me anymore as my life is on track and she sees I'm doing well with everything.

So, she's going to be writing me the letter! She also referred me to another person in her same office that will be able to get me my second letter! Along with that, I'll have enough for the down payment in three weeks and I'll be able to schedule the surgery for next year. I am absolutely ecstatic right now. After having the FFS in January, I thought it'd be years and years before I'd be able to afford another big surgery again. But I've been budgeting and getting into the nitty gritty with everything I spend on and I'll be able to save $1000+ a month as of right now. Even better though, my boyfriend is looking to buy his first house within the coming months and we're probably going to be moving in together. We talk openly about all this, so I was telling him how I was planning on getting SRS next year and my savings goal and stuff. We also were talking about moving in together and about the payment, and he would let me move in with him and pay less (or maybe nothing) for rent, leaving me with another $1000 a month to put in my savings!

That would allow me to have enough for the surgery in around 7 months instead of 13 months, knocking off half the time I'd have to wait. The house situation is not yet set in stone, and I'm not planning on that right now since I feel bad anyways suggesting that I live there while paying no rent, but I'm still happy that I'll be able to save up for the surgery by November of next year on my own at least. I can't believe this is all happening! The last step of this journey is almost complete!

I didn't realize that there's a hidden community I don't see on IRC here. Sarah you are gorgeous amongst others.

Wow, Sarah!   Just awesome.   You must be really committed to be putting your money away like that.  Great for you!  7 months is going to fly by I know.  Might want to give yourself a little breathing room in case something unexpected happens around your move, or in case you just want some "time off for bad behavior."

So very happy for you.  Have you decided who you are going with?

Ever since I first realized I should start saving for FFS, I have put myself on a strict budget and have kept with it using Quicken to track all my finances, bills, income, savings, etc. so I can forecast where I'll be financially over time. It's been extremely helpful in keeping to my goals. Now that I've been doing that and am done with FFS, I already have it all sorted out to start tracking my savings for SRS.

That's probably a good idea. I'll probably be scheduling it for November 15th-ish (2010), which will allow me to have enough money along with enough paid time off from work and some extra funds as well.

At this point I'm fixed on Dr. Brassard. I've seen some of his work, and have heard a lot of good things about him. I have been following AmyM's troubles with communication and bad manners with his office staff, but I'm still going to try my luck and see how it goes. If that falls through for some reason, then my next choice is Dr. Bowers. After that, I haven't put anyone else in the number 3 spot, and I'm figuring I shouldn't have a problem getting either Dr. Brassard or Bowers.
