QUINCY —

The writers of a recent letter on transgender rights use the phrase "common sense dictates the passage of an act relative to gender-based discrimination and hate crimes."

They also seem to reference "equal protection under the law" and often reference hate crimes.

I am sick of hearing two phrases in this country: Hate crimes and racism.

If there is something one group does not like, it is referred to as a hate crime or a racist crime.

There, I went there and said my peace. These people, I think sometimes, will never get it! ???

I saw this earlier and sent a letter to the editor. I guess the conservative extremists are upset that they are running out of people to legally discriminate against.

That was a very good response, Dawn. I thought it funny that he was trying to have it both ways...he really needs to learn more before he spews.

Looks like Mr Q. and I have developed a bit of a tug of war, lol.

Perhaps instead of "hate crime" we should call it what we call it when it happens anywhere else in the world:

Terrorism.
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

My response to this Mr. Q .........

QuoteUmm Mr Quincy.... did you read the rules for this forum: 'Don't bash anyone based on their race, creed, heritage, or orientation.'

And yet you proceeding to state , 'If ->-bleeped-<-s insist on flaming all over the place', which is offensive in two ways. First the word '->-bleeped-<-' is equivalent of the N-word that is associated to Blacks. Secondly, transgender persons are typically not FLAMING as the try to blend to the other gender, with their ultimate ideal to be to PASS without recognition.

Flaming usually is associated to be homosexual, and it is used to describe not so much the clothing but the attitude and personality of the person. If you meant flaming as in Drag Queens, they typically dress only to be flamboyant and do this outside of work.

Alyssa,

Not a bad choice of terms! I think I'll borrow that one, if you don't mind?

daisybelle,

Very good response!

Looks like I hit a nerve. It also looks like none of you can even agree on a definition. I feel confident the bill will get nowhere. Oh, and when the PL thinks my comments are inappropiriate they will let me know.

American citizens all get the same rights- the problem is when some citizens think their special circumstances require more rights. You are the idiots who are splintering this nation.

So I responded back:

If you want me to report your comments as abusive -- let me know. I asked you to keep inside the lines and discuss the topic rationally. I explained where you stepped over the line. And then you follow with 'IDIOTS'.

That is not a way to have a rational conversation.

What I saw was this Mr Quincy seemed to be the only phobe in on the discussion.  One boneheaded jerk, who does not deserve the attention or recognition that his words matter.  He is like many other closed-minded people who are too afraid to educate themselves for fear they will be found wrong.

I don't think reason and logic work on people like Mr. Quincy. He's been saying the same thing over and over and no matter what anyone says, he'll just continue to say "No, you're an idiot, shut up. You're weird so you're wrong."

Sigh.

The only good answering an idiot like him comes from those who read the comments but aren't particularly attached to either position.  The more they see the opposition as irrational haters and the supporters as compassionate but logical and fair the more they will be inclined to support us.

Arguing with trolls means you never visibly win but the minds changed might just tip the balance to our favor.
