Being that California has so many people, here going to the DMV is almost as fun as going to the dentist. So you start out in the information line. I went to finally have the gender marker changed. So I am I there with my signed form from the surgeon about changing the marker to a "M"  The woman was perplexed. She really didn't get it. Which is good, because she thought I was a bio guy and just didn't understand. I had to help her. Then she gives me a number and tells me to fill out a form again that I already had when I changed my name. I went there a few weeks back to get the "form" for just gender change. Then they thought it was the same form as changing your name or address. I had to call the surgeons office and get them to have the doctor sign that form from there and then send it to me(that is what should have been done from the begining) otherwise, I would not have been able to obtain that form through the DMV. Why? Because no one knows about this particular form. Would you not think they would be versed on all forms? Not so. The guy that handled it was very nice, and more than apologetic enough. I told him not ot sweat it, just now the next time this happens he will know what to do. I said to him I was sure this was not a common thing, and he agreed. It took himself and two supervisors to find the document within their system, and finish processing me. In the end it was fine, and I got to get another picture done with no charfgfe since I just had one done a few months back due to the name change. This picture will be better though since now I have somewhat of a beard. We have to wait here to get our licence in the mail after changes, so I won't see the picture until it comes to me

I'm happy for you Marco's. Getting your gender marker changed must feel realty great.
And in a way it was I bet it felt good that they were confused thinking that you were a "GM".
It is a bummer to have to wait but will you show us your new picture when you get it?

You are right, most employees at the DMV are not familiar with form DL328; in the majority of the cases you have to call a supervisor to assist you.

This is why it is always a good idea to call in advance and make an appointment via telephone or e-mail, so you don't get migraines making lines or talking to inept employees.

When I changed mine here in CA, things were different. I had moved here from Utah.  I showed them a letter from my Utah therapist and they issued my license with the big F on it from the outset. 

In any case.  It feels good to have an ID to match your face no?  Congrats.

Awesome, Marco. Just out of curiosity, though, did you have to have a note for a surgeon, or does anyone know if a letter from a gender therapist is sufficient? While I am not yet at that stage of transitioning, I wouldn't mind knowing the proper protocol for when that situation does eventually arise. Thanks
