Sorry to sound stupid but what is cisgender? I've googled but it's very vague and still not clear to me, can someone clarify please?

Cis gender is where a person's brain and body match... ie, not trans! (Cis and Trans are mathematical terms)

So cisgenders are straights or homosexuals who accept themselves fully with whatever sex they were born with, right?

Well Cisgender people dont tend to CARE about thier gender the way we do... they are a male brain in a male body, or a female brain in a female body... its just not an issue. Thier sexuality is an entirely seperate thing.

"The word has its origin in the Latin-derived prefix cis, meaning "on the same side" as in the cis-trans distinction in chemistry. In this case, "cis" refers to the alignment of gender identity with assigned gender."

I use the term 'bios', as in biological.  Hence biowoman or bioman, meaning biological woman or biological man.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, we're all biological men and women.... unless we're all cybernetic organisms now and I missed the boat...

If you were to leave your DNA behind at a crime scene, would they be
looking for a biological male or female, no matter what amount of chemicals
you have ingested or how many knives you have gone under.

Won't you be my neighbor?" - Fred Rogers

It's beautiful, it makes sense, is short yet sweet, & leaves one with a desire for more...why can't more be explained in this form?

erm?
Heatherrose:

Well no, they would look for a male by genetics... however the hormone signatures would be in the skin cells or hair one left behind. It would be possible to extrapolate. However, I dont think thats a good thing to advetise. Imagine criminals realising this... transitioning and using it as a 'mask' of sorts... visibly and geneticly... Anyway, if the dna was on record, it would link straight to the the transitioned individual if it was offical.

On topic: I'm not sure i like the whole 'real girl' 'not real girl' insinuations of a lot of the labels out there, Imo Cisgender and transgender are perfect... once someone is transitioned, they are cisgender... thier body matches thier mind... Job done! It removes the horrid discrimination of 'real and fake' that lurks everywhere and separates  people by thier luck alone essentially...

Two essays about the terms, cissexual and cisgender:

Whipping Girl FAQ on cissexual, cisgender, and cis privilege: http://juliaserano.livejournal.com/14700.html

Jeez Louise This Whole Cisgender Thing (helenboyd): http://www.myhusbandbetty.com/2009/09/17/jeez-louise-this-whole-cisgender-thing/

Since these are relatively new terms for our community they still have shifting definitions and can result in confusion between two individual's separate conceptions of the words.  Ridicule and offense do not serve to solidify the definitions for anyone so please refrain from engaging in those ways.  Speaking respectfully while addressing the issue will.

The Wiki has articles for these and other terms as well if you wish to look there.
