hey everyone, i know there have been a lot of "what should my name be?" type threads going on, but im really stumped. :/

im completely set on what my first and last names are going to be.  my first will be Joshua and im going to change my last name to my mom's maiden name because my mom's side of the family has been awesome and my dads side of the family isnt really down with my transition and i have no desire to carry their family name.

so my name will be Joshua ________ Roudybush.  (yes, that is seriously my moms maiden name)

i was thinking about Keaton, but its kind of "meh".  im not really sure what to do about it.  any ideas?

Halfway into this, I thought I would just tell you to use your mom's maiden name for your middle name (that's how I got mine) but that's obviously not gonna work.

I don't know, do you have a brother or something? It's your name and we can't give you anything with any of that precious sentimental value that people rely on to rename themselves. Make it a joke or something maybe. You don't need a middle name.

Hey Josh
My parentals are being awesome about transition and I asked them first how they would feel if I changed my name and secondly would they like to choose it - maybe you could ask your mum?? I had a bit of a hard time like she thought it would be me throwing the name she gave me in the bin you know. (Thats not what I was doing, but how I felt).
Also check out meanings too. I gave my folks a list of names I liked and thought appropriate but also wanted to see what they wanted to put forwards as well. So my first name ended up being Jay - which everyone knew me as anyway, and my middle name is now Ruben - meaning behold, a son! I liked it, they liked it and its from dad's side of the family so... Epic win!!
Just a thought bro.
Cheers

Josh Is their anyone in your family that you think is the best? that you can look up to? or maybe want to dedicate?

For my full name..

Matthew
Why I choose this name? I've asked my father what name that he and my mother would have named me if I turned out to be a boy and not as a girl so my fathers answer was Matthew so I'm dedicating my first name as a respect for my parents.
Jacob
Why I choose this name? I chosen this name to dedicate my cousin (on my moms side of the family) who died of a heroin overdose a couple of years ago. I feel that it is out of respect for my cousin to add his name to my full name. R.I.P Bro!
Fleischer
Why I chosen this name? I find the name appealing. I may change it but so far I'm keeping it. It's not my real last name.

I have no idea what you can change your name to, I guess something cool because it is your middle name and you don't need to use it all the time..

I picked mine because:-

Lee - Its ordinary and it begins with a L like my birth name.

Euan - Its scottish and my dad is scottish, plus it starts with an E.

Johnston- Because its my last name!

Thats all I can help you with sorry bud!

What's your current middle name? I just chose the masculine of my original one, because it was in honor of my grandmother whose name had been the feminine version of my great grandfather's. So I just switched it back to the masculine.

I wanted to keep my initials, so, my original middle name being Heather, I went through a baby book looking at all the H's.  I came across Hadley, which means "heather meadow".  Since my mom had specific reasons why she chose Heather in the first place, I thought it would be a nice nod to that.

I think we need a bit more direction from you, though, Josh.  Do you want to keep a particular initial?  Do you want something from a particular cultural heritage?  Does the meaning of the name matter to you?  Do you like traditional names?  Modern names?  Spiritual names?  Hippy names?  ;)

Picking my middle name was easy, I don't know why, but it was.

My only suggestion to you is to pick something that flows. Makes it easier to say.
Don't be scared to fly alone, find a path that is your own

Don't hold back and always know, all the answers will unfold

I'm a bit lucky. I'll go back to my maiden surname and I'm keeping my first name because it's unisex. Should also be easier for people to remember. :D So, I'll be changing my middle name to something completely new and I've already know what I want it to be for quite awhile now.

People who already know me can still call me by my first name, but- after the name change- I'll probably introduce myself by my middle name. Actually, it wouldn't bother me if I was called by my first or middle name.

Anyway, I think once you come across your new middle name you'll know it right away. You'll know it fits. :)

If you don't find any you like, you could always just go without one. Nobody ever really uses their middle name anyway.

When I did the change I decided to run without one (I just don't suit having one). It hasn't broken any databases yet  ;).

I could only really suggest figuring out what sort of sound or flow you want first. That might make it a bit easier.

Pick something that flows with Josh.

Possibly a name that has family significance.  It's common in my family for male/female children to have their dad/mom's first name as their middle name.  Sounds like you aren't too keen on your dad's side, so are there any grandfathers/uncles on your mom's side that you like?

How about a name that is 'traditional' to your heritage?

Or just a name that sounds cool.  But the above two reasons are the ones that I considered.  I ended up going with my dad's name as my middle name--even if he's being an absolute arse about pronouns/calling me by my birthname/answering with "yes, m'am" whenever I call, lol...

silverfang - no brother
jaydle - my mom already picked josh as what she would have named me
mathew - i dont really look up to anyone in my family or otherwise
nero - my current middle name is pauline.  i absolutely hate it AND the name paul.
jamie - i dont really care about any particular initial... except not P.
kvall - i dont really look upto anyone or have favorite literature figures or anything
eryk - i was adopted and have no idea of what my heritage is.  (i appear mostly european)
kisschitty - i'll give it some thought. :)

OK, so here are a few suggestions that I thought suited you and Joshua, and their meanings.
Mitchell - like God
Michael -   "    "
Ethan - firm, strong
Caleb - faithful, bold
Dillon - faithful
Bryan - strong one
I chose these particular names to put forth because I was looking for names to represent you being true to yourself by changing your birthname and becoming the man you have always been - but never seen. My suggestions alone mate - no hard feeling you don't use or like em.
Cheers

Yeah, dude. I noticed the hilarity of it immediately. But hey... who are we to judge? Maybe in his part of the world, it's just as common as, say, Wiener in mine or yours. Anywho.

I have no suggestions for middle names, Josh. I came up with mine (Dean) on my own, and almost used it as my first name. My family was horrible, and still is, about my transition, so there was no option of asking them for suggestions (though my mother has always loved the name Paul... and I don't like it any more than you do). Of those names already suggested, I'd say any that Jaydle suggested would work fairly well... he did a good job of coming up with names that work well with Joshua. Oh, except for Caleb. By the way, it means "dog," not "faithful". I mean, I guess people have faithful dogs, but who really wants to be named for one? Better than Brendan, though... that one means "dirty hair." Sorry, kind of into names. But yeah. That's my say.

My bad Seb, just writing what I found on the net!! Glad you thought I did a good job but, cheers  ;D I had a hard time deciding names, I thought the least I can do is help a brother out. But as everyone has said, Josh mate its your decision and in the end you need to be happy with the choice.
Take it easy all.
