Start small buy maybe blush and foundation. Then go to the bigger stuff.
I think thats what I did when I tried being a girl. Small steps are good

Back in June, I had a makeup lesson with a person who specializes in TG/CD. At that time, I couldn't afford to get much of the stuff she used. Recently, I had some extra cash and I just walked into a MAC in the mall and said, I need these things. The person asked if it was for me, I told her it was, and there was no big deal. It was great, actually.

I remember when I bought make up for the first time...what a disaster :o! I was super nervous and got all the wrong shades, but now I look back and realize it was just another learning experience.

I would recommend foundation and some powder start with...

Just my two cents!

I remember the first time I brought makeup, I was so scared I thought I would pee my pants.  That was 20 years ago.  Now it is just another thing this girl does.  But I now can just pay myself through my business.  It is the best way.  ;D

Try just picking up a small item at the grocery, like a lipstick or an eyeliner pencil, and mix it in with your other purchases. Most of the time they'll just ring it up. Occasionally you'll get the "eye", and you have some options at that point. A) Yes, its for me B) You consult a list that you are carrying and say - yes, that is what she wanted, or C) Feign deafness, smile a lot, and pay (what I do).  I find that you'll get this more with young female cashiers, so you may want to do a "survey" and pick your cashier.

After all, it's really none of their business what you buy. Don't build it up into a big thing in your mind.

You'll find that about 75% of the cashiers really don't give a rip. I even got complements on some heels that I bought at a salvation army store from the lady cashier. But I know that the first time buying this stuff is terrifying. Hang in there, sister.

There are little tricks to make it easier, one I read on this site a while ago and have suggested a couple times since is to grab a birthday card for a sister off the rack and mention to the makeup girl that you are looking for makeup for a birthday gift.

i used that one but in the gift basket type way lol i told her i was looking for something for my daughter to make a basket out of and sh had the same complexion as mine

I might try that trick myself someday if I ever get the spare cash for it  ;)

I think I might have read somewhere that there are makeup "starters kits" sold around Christmas time. Is that true? If it is then I might save a few dollars and venture out, card in hand, and pick one up  :D

yeppers some good value pacs to that allow you to get a range of shades to try they seam to be in mass at christmas time at the cosmetic counters

I giggled to myself as I read each post as I went to the department store tonight to get some and chickened out.  **embarrassed smiles**  I am 46 so and can't pretend to be a uni student or a goth.  I will get some soon though.  I generally use my wife's, but she has gone away for a few days and took the foundation and mascara etc  I have been thinking of taking a small picture of me done up and so when they ask who it is for I will say me, and show them the picture.  I look so different without the pretty stuff.

I'm 40, and I can't pretend to be those things, either.

San Mateo (where I live) is more conservative than San Francisco. But, I went to the mall on a weekday morning before it got very crowded. I was worried about how I'd be received, but it went smooth.

Come on Kylie, be strong and do it before me.  You can do it, just take a deep breath and be confident, especially if you are going to transition.  Don't let anybody stand in your way.  We all know you can do it young lady so don't say tomorrow, say by 4pm Saturday.  (as in this Saturday sweety)

I remember it well.....

Most people don't bother but a list always helps your own confidence

I think now would be a great time to do it, if you've never done it before and live in the US or anywhere that celebrates Halloween.

You're entering a costume contest, and need realistic shades because you really want to win(At the counter)

Most of the cashiers wont even notice if its with other things, but if you only ring out makeup and they give you any type of look. Just nonchalantly mention Halloween and they'll shut up.

Goodluck to all of you. And after the first time, it will get even easier.
