Alyx.

Oh, I've had all sorts of things happen. Pretty creepy things too, but I'm too lazy to type them all out, so I'll just tell one, and if you want to hear more, tell me. ;)

I have a doppleganger. He looks just like me and acts just like me, and shows up at times when I'm elsewhere but others think I am with them. One true example:

One time, I had picture day at school, so naturally, I had to go and fix my hair. So I told my two guy friends I was going, and I ran off into the bathroom. I was thinking the auditorium was the place the pictures were being taken, so I was planning on going there afterwards. So I ran into the bathroom, and my friends who were following me didn't see this, and continued to follow "me" torwards the auditorium. They talk to me and such, telling me that in fact the pictures were in the forum, and "I" went into the auditorium. I then came out of the bathroom, and looked for my friends, who were yelling "HOW THE **** DID YOU DO THAT?" at me, and me looking totally confused. "YOU JUST WENT INTO THE AUDITORIUM AND CAME OUT THE BATHROOM!"

And that is why to my friends I'm the greatest ninja of all time. This story is all true, I swear it.

I had another incidence with him that involved my sister, but I'll only type it up on request. :3
If you do not agree to my demands... TOO LATE

Like I said before, I don't really buy the whole ghost and spirit thing.  I just think there is certain phenomenon we can't explain. There is lots of things in this world we can't explain. It doesn't mean it exists, only that we don't have the means to accurately detect or determine it's origins.

Yeah, couldn't agree more!  I've no problem with there being stuff we don't yet understand or can't explain, I just rebel at the idea of filling that explanatory gap with the supernatural :)

It doesn't help that many fake this stuff. [...]

Indeed - and when, as in the vid Susan posted, a child starts getting what looks like abrasions/bruises on its head and this is claimed to be ghosts, then that really bothers me.  (Naturally the kid is too young to speak and explain).

Oh Finewine

I'm suprised by your negativety. I remember distinctly a recent event when poltergeists went wild on the stock market. All the money went and no one was to blame.

There were some ghastly spirits about earlier. But I turned on the bathroom fan and they disappeared

Quote from: finewine on October 18, 2009, 03:14:59 AMI mean, why does Casper The Ghost happily interact so physically with the real world when people who believe in ghosts are there but never when there's an attempt empirically verify these interactions?

I think there are two reasons for this. The first is related to the phrase, "I'll believe it when I see it." This is actually backwards. Emerging science shows that with human perception, you'll see it when you believe it.

The second reason is along the same lines as a cat walking into a room. Whose lap does it jump into? The person who least likes cats. Who does Casper perform for? The person most likely to respond to the performance, the believer.

In the video, at one point you can see the planet Neptune in the eastern sky.
Is it not obvious that the cop just let his imagination run away with him and what
he actually saw was Neptune reflected off of the cop's car windshield
viewed through sewer gas, ignited by ball lightning?

Why is it that with all these ostensibly powerful testimonies and camera footage (always shot by "believers") and, in that video, people being attacked, plates flying etc. that it is never, ever captured scientifically - and any attempt to do so makes the phenomena become suddenly and strangely quiet.

I mean, why does Casper The Ghost happily interact so physically with the real world when people who believe in ghosts are there but never when there's an attempt empirically verify these interactions?  Why are ghosties and ghoulies so afraid of scientists but will fill nine miles of believers video tapes without hesitation?  Ohh, let me see if I can think of an explanation  *scratches beard* :)

You know, I'd actually like to see some scientists make a TV show where they investigate it. All of them would have to be skeptics and they'd have to come up with logical explanations for things.
Don't be scared to fly alone, find a path that is your own
Love will open every door it's in your hands, the world is yours
Don't hold back and always know, all the answers will unfold
What are you waiting for, spread your wings and soar

Honestly, I don't believe in anything "unexplainable". Unexplained yes, but unexplainable no.
I think most accounts of hauntings are psychosomatic reactions to the expectations of haunting.
I do consider it possible that the "things" I see in my house may not be what I believe they are, but at this point in time, I still believe they are what I believe they are.

Vitriolic fanaticism is a characteristic rampant on both sides,
"believers" and "non".

That is true with many things.
