For the second straight year, downtown St. Louis will be home to the Miss Gay America Pageant, where more than 60 female impersonators will strut, shimmer and dress to impress. We chatted with Carl Glorioso of Kansas City about his alter ego Victoria DePaula, his reign as Miss Gay America 2009 and what's ahead for him.

How did you get your start as a female impersonator? I have a big background in dance and theater. I started dance at the age of 3 and did vocal training and theater. I did a production of "La Cage Aux Folles" here in Kansas City, and I was cast as one of the cagelles, which is ultimately a drag queen. That's really how it all started. It was in 1996 — I was 19 years old. ... I got a fake ID, and that's how I got into the bars to entertain at such a young age. ...The rest is history.
