Since most polls about gays also apply to the entire LGBT community I thought these might be of interest.  Click on the title to go to the original poll.

Religiosity and Perceived Intolerance of Gays and Lesbians

Knowing Someone Gay/Lesbian Affects Views of Gay Issues

Gay and Lesbian Rights

I thought this was interesting.

Being a marketer. and amateur demographer, I think all of this is quite fascinating. There were some surprises in the data, and some pretty common sense things. Of course, when people know someone personally who is gay or lesbian, the numbers supporting marriage and equal rights climbed. Sadly, the more religious a person, the more intolerant they seem to become. Also, it seems that every religion has their bastion of bigotry. Bigotry is an equal opportunity employer. Most people, according to the survey say they are comfortable around gays & lesbians. Really?

It is interesting and disturbing to see that many people still think that gay relations should be illegal. In 2009? Are you kidding?

Since in America we honor the right to a job, the majority say we should have the right to not be discriminated in the workplace. So let me get this straight. (like the pun?) We can work and pay our taxes, so that we can support the unfair tax and benefit treatment doled out by the Federal and state governments to straight people.

God bless America!

Sure they are, Juliekins.  Out of sight, out of mind.  As long as they don't see the problems that the laws cause they could care less.

The more that it effects them directly the more they care.  If a son or daughter announces that they are gay, Mom and Dad suddenly become a support of gay rights, especially when their child is harmed or loses a job or housing.  Sometimes the harm even motivates their parents to action.

Such as Mathew Shepard or James Byrd's parents.  Now we have the Shepard/Byrd law, thanks to their children's sacrifice and their parents fight.

Just my ramblings,
Janet

One of the polls I saw asked who was in favor of testing on animals and wearing clothing made of animal fur.  Republicans were about 20% more in favor than Democrats or Moderates.

We all know dehumanizing is one method people use to do something they would normally consider wrong and still be able to live with themselves.  Serial killers are said to use this so they feel okay killing and torturing their victims.

Add to this people who don't know any gays or lesbians are more likely to be against LGBT equality - dehumanization comes into play.  We don't see you as equal so we have no qualms about denying you the same rights we have.

And Republicans are more prone to harming and killing animals for human advantage.

I think you know where I'm going...

The one I found the most interesting was gay and lesbian relations between consenting adults. As far as I'm concerned what two people do in the private is their business.
