Hallwalls 20th Anniversary Ways In Being Gay : Ways In/Between Gender
http://www.outcomebuffalo.com/hallwalls-ways-1102-200911020903.htmBuffalo — It was 1988 when, then Hallwalls performance art curator Ron Ehmke, created a multi-disciplinary series entitled Ways in Being Gay. The program, which featured work by local and international artists in a variety of fields--from literature to film--has continued as one of Hallwalls longest standing programs. During the past year, Hallwalls Media Arts Director Carolyn Tennant began a year-long celebration of this ground-breaking program. The series concludes this month with three presentations, a performance of Holly Hughes' play Clit Notes, an encore screening of the documentary featuring Madeline Davis and her work in creating an archive of local gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans history in Swimming With Lesbians, and a special screening of the award winning Cockettes, a documentary about the psychedelic San Francisco drag troupe. These upcoming events conclude a successful year of activities, that began last November with a tribute to famed experimental filmmaker Derek Jarman, and has consistently showcased works by emerging and established artists working in a variety of media. The three events kick off on Saturday November 14th, with a performance presented by the Brazen Faced Varlets, who will present Holly Huges' Clit Notes, first presented at Hallwalls in 1994 as part of that year's Ways In festival.
