If I had to pick right now I'd go with Origins.  It's the only stuff I've tried so far that doesn't make me break out or feel like a it's my first day at clown camp.
Grain of Salt: The only other "big brand" I've tried was cover girl.

Only one brand for everything?  Yow!  I'd have to go with CoverGirl or Revlon which are pretty much interchangeable to me.  The upmarket stuff is good yeah, you're getting what you pay for.  Always thought that Lancome makes the most awesome lipstick in the world - but at like $20+ a tube it better be out of this world.  But the really good stuff don't work for me, makeup can only do so much, and the extra awesomeness of the really good stuff can't over come nature.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

That question makes me dizzy  :P As if I'm not dizzy enough already

I will have to experiment more before deciding on a particular fav.   ::)

I love some of the suggestions though. Will have to try them out  ;D

I came head first against the paraben scare when my wife started reading and researching the issue.
There are many, many more reports out there on the subject but here's one: http://www.naturalnews.com/022113_parabens_chemicals_cosmetics.html

As a result I've been using Bare Escentuals -Bare Minerals: http://bareescentuals.com/
and I really like the results.
