I wonder why many of you are still using this old outdated method of the 90's when now there is laser. I tried electrolysis and it's very painful and the sessions seem to be lasting eternally + it leaves horrendous scars like mini craters on your face and the only way to corect this is a chemical peel. Better try laser, it might be costful, it's kinda painful too, a flare of white heads and acne for 1 week but the 3rd week it's magic and your skin is smooth like a real woman, really worth trying.

Laser works best of dark hair, light skinned.  As you move away from that it's effectiveness diminishes.  And if you have dark skin you could have pigment damage from laser.

Laser isn't permanent.  You won't find any place that will guarantee you permanent hair removal with laser unless they plan on not honoring their guarantee.  Most will give you up to three years guarantee.

Laser might make the hairs finer which could mean less current is needed for electrolysis.  Not sure if anyone has done a study on that though.

The only known method for permanent hair removal today is electrolysis.  Yes, it hurts and it can leave pitting, especially when the operator doesn't know what they are doing.

It doesn't work on blonde hair.

Yeah unfortunately I heard of that too but stupid question: What if you dyed your moustache and beard black then do laser, could it work then?  :-\

but but but I like the pain! Give it to me baybeee moore! No? Then I'll have to tell you how naughty I've been... :icon_zombie:

Even if it's outdated pain from the 90's lol, I'm an outdated girl from the 90s so I guess if the shoe fits!

Laser did absolutely nothing for me which was a very unfortunate thing because now I'm stuck with that "old outdated method" :p

Electro has been amazing for me though so far much more pain but it's only an hour at a time so I normally manage.

Dying doesn't work because the root is what has to heat up and it won't accept dye.  There is a new laser technology now that claims to work even on blond hair but I have not heard anything about it.  American Laser was said to handle it.  I have light red and white i.e. gray hair in my beard and very very sensitive skin so I cringe at even starting electro.  Also for me most part it doesn't show but feeling it really depresses me.  If it all wasn't so damned expensive.  Now, my facial skin is so soft that my Norelco electric razor puts hundreds of tiny nicks in it and wow does that hurt.

I have red & blonde hair, what I read on the laser treatment for that wasn't promising at all, though I would LOVE to hear of it working.  There is a melanin spray that you are supposed to apply several times a day for 6 weeks prior to each treatment.  It's a fairly expensive bottle, and from what I've heard it's minimally effective for comparably thicker male-type facial hair.  It's also supposedly ineffective for those especially prone to ingrown hairs, maybe because so many don't have a path to the surface of the skin for the full 6 weeks of the spray treatment?

There's also a diode laser that is supposed to be more effective on lighter hairs, but is still ineffective on red hairs which are completely absent of melanin, so I haven't looked at that too much.

Laser doesn't work for hairs lacking melanin because the melanin is what the lasers target.  Without the melanin there, you're just burning your skin and not the hair follicle.

I'm hoping for a DNA virus that will make male body hair stop growing.  And while we're at it, one that stimulates regrowth of lost scalp hair.  Might as well throw in putting color back into those gray/white hairs.

Is there a geneticist in the house?

We could design a virus to target the androgen gene receptors! :O :D
Already thought of that ^^ wanna buy the lab together? :) Complete androgen insensetivity! :):):)

First off. Electrolysis has been around since the 1870's, it was invented by Dr Charles Michael, if memory serves me correctly. It was invented to remove ingrown eye lashes. Laser never really worked for me. Waste of time, waste of money. My electrolysis has over 20 yrs of continuous experience. If your professional is truly a professional you will not experience pitting.

I decided to wake this one up instead of making a new topic. After bunches of laser I switched to electro and thank god for vicodins. I've noticed a smoothness and reduction in pore size that laser just wasn't delivering. Maybe it's the combination of both or whatever, but I made the switch because of some *ahem* blonde, and I think I'm gonna stick with it. The other day the lady was actually swirling a couple especially coarse ones that are gone for good now, but woulda needed a couple more shots of laser. Sure hope the narcotics don't dry up.

Be sure that you go to a very experienced electrologist for facial hair removal. The lady I go to has 23 years of experience and I adore her work. I am a training puppet for her apprentice, who is a delightful woman, but we're doing electro on my arms for her to practice on and I have a couple of nasty burns that I hope will fade. On the arm, not a big deal (even if they annoy me), but on the face it would be disconcerting.

back when i worked in a medical lab i think we stumbled on to the cure for facial hair but then lost it lol kills me to think this may have been a great solution. I worked in the microbiology department for lab Core then it was called national health. anyrate do to carelessness i contaminated my face with something not sure if it was a chemical or bacteria exposure but i noticed my skin around the chin and right cheek was slimy almost as if i had gotten battery acid on it. it didnt hurt so i paid it no mind and went to the restroom to wash it off. the next morning those areas were completely cleared of facial hair and remained that way until my beard started turning grey some 8 years later then the hair came back in white. Not sure what happened there but after two weeks with no growth my and the microbiologist tried to figure out what had occured unfortunately we never did

Oh yeah, she's awesome. I've never once felt her pluck, now that's skill. It amuses me how much she loves her job, I have a thick, deep surgical scar behind my ear and she got all excited when I asked her to clear it because I couldn't really feel it so she could turn up the juice, and, I quote: 'scar hairs are cool'. I love her so much, when she found out I'm a psych major she started trying to teach me Scientology, lol. She had a great energy so I just keep going back and listening.

I'm waiting for something like Chromosome Replacement Therapy. :) And maybe Stem Cell Gender Replacement Therapy.

Well, if we're going to go that far, how about ovaries and uterus?

Gawd, the money I could save on hormones!!!

Though I'd probably have to worry about getting pregnant then...

Yea, this is what I am thinking. Imagine getting your gender truly changed then having to take birth control!

I knew studying this biology degree would come in useful at some point. ^_^
We try to avoid using retro-viruses to modify adult cells these days. The problem is that they insert there DNA all over the place in our own genomes and it then also tends to jump around making it's expression unpredictable.
This can cause... problems... :/

Sadly we don't have too many other methods of getting DNA in... It's not like with plants were you can regrow the whole thing from a clipping and there are bacteria that stably fuse genes in a completely controlled manner.

What's wrong with gray hairs I always thought they were pretty spiffy and was quietly happy when I got my first ones at age 19 :P

I saw some interesting results recently where a lab took an animal heart (I think it was a rat) and they digested away all of the cells so it was only the extracellular fiberous webbing material that holds the cells together. They then implanted this material with stem cells from another rat and basically were regrowing a heart that could be implanted into the rat that donated into the stem cell donor without fear of rejection.

Building new organs for transexuals as you might guess isn't the focus of this research it's primarily focused on duplicating organs for individuals with nasty degenerative diseases.
It'd be alittle bit more complicated to do it with a ovary uterus set then implant it successfully in an individual who never had said organ to begin with as all the arteries goto different places but it could be done at some point I'm sure.
