So as I posted about having fears of going on T and getting more hairy, I wanted to ask...
Has anyone here went on and off T, just to get certain effects?
What effects are reversible?
What changes happened to you first?
And how long did it take for the changes to happen?

I haven't personally done it but if you go to youtube and search for the user "MeikoEliasXavier", he has some videos about it.  He went on and off T and articulates himself really well, I learned a lot watching his vids, you probably would as well

not to hijack the thread but do you know if he has made any talking videos since he went back on T? Wasn't sure if he had a new channel or not.

for the going on and off, there are a few guys on Youtube that went off that I found and they all (I think three that I found) went back on, so not sure if that is helpful. So check out you tube.

Ok thanks for the youtube tip, but I never have access to a computer to watch it by myself.

Try the public library, the computers at a lot of libraries have headphones, and often have the 'box' thing around them so people can only see the screen from directly behind you (where you head is usually at least partially blocking the screen).

hey guys i know this is a boys thread and like all boys you all are willing to take chances but can i be the mother hen here or nagging gf at least T is a powerful hormone and its effects are different on everyone including bio males. so even if some of you experienced certain effects and not others and starting and stopping had no ill effects on you it dosnt mean that it will be the same for someone else. Please dont play around with this hormone if you are not in a position were you can come out to all the important people in your life dont start the hrt. wait till you are fully ready to transition even the reversable results are not always reversable and while its slow to act on some others have expierenced significant changes very rapidly it depends on your individual body and no one can predict the results with any accuracy. hugs just my two cents worth

Sure, HRT is a good test, but you had better be sure of the outcome before you start.

Usually you spend the first so many weeks on a low or half dose. This means things will be slow at the beginning but that also means if you decide you made a bad choice there is not much to reverse or damage done. Remember everyone is different, some had huge gains on a half dose some haven't. Just keep in mind that is where a lot of the docs. start you out.

There are some things I'd really like to have. Some things I couldn't really care less about. A few things I'd really rather not have. But honestly, it's just like puberty; you don't get to choose. So long as you're willing to live with the effects you don't want if you get them, I don't see why you can't take t for awhile and then stop.

Just don't disillusion yourself into thinking that you can take it for targeted effects. That'd be like doing sit-ups and expecting to loose fat off your stomach. Educate yourself, and be prepared for the outcomes so you can make the best decision possible for yourself.

I don't think anyone here has been saying that certain effects always happen for everyone. Kvall, for instance, was using qualifiers like "usually" to indicate that different people get different effects. I think this thread is okay and the responders are being responsible.

Jesse, I see where you are coming from, but remember that "transition" means different things to different people. Some people start T, take it for a few months to get certain effects, and then stop--and they're done. Not everyone wants to be on T forever. I wouldn't call that "playing around." It's just that not everyone wants the same thing. And forgive me if I have misunderstood. T is, as you've said, a very powerful hormone, and I know you're watching out for all of us.

Also remember that T will affect things internally such as mood. Not only do guys benefit from the physical changes but not having to deal with the female hormone cycle is a big plus as well. If you only take T for a little while and stop you're going to have to deal with the female hormone cycle again and what that does to your mentality.

Just thought I'd bring that up since I think we can get caught up in the physical changes that are brought about by HRT and can lose sight of those internal changes that happen.

Good point. Of course, some people are past that point in their lives--the red death, I mean--but I don't think ccc is. Although some people don't have the cycles and they aren't even post-menopausal.

I went through menopause before I started T. I think that reaching "the change" was a real factor in my decision to transition. My decision was precipitated by a lot of things, but reaching menopause gave me a taste of what life could be like without that hateful monthly reminder. So I never had to worry that it would come back if I stopped T (at one time, I was considering the possibility of stopping and starting).

Once I started T, I knew I could never stop. I think that happens to quite a few guys who aren't one hundred percent sure beforehand. CCC, just be aware that your feelings might change once you're on the juice, if you go on the juice, that is.

I've gotten to where I can kinda deal with the red death, but the thing that bothers me is the fluctuating hormones. I have times where I feel comfortable and confident in who I am, but it's always short lived because E comes surging back into the picture. I'm very lucky physically as I have a masculine face, but there are times when I can't see that because of the E in my system. A big reason why I want T is so that I can feel like myself all the time and not have to struggle internally just to be who I am.

Estrogen is also a powerful hormone and can really mess with you even if you get all the physical changes you want.

Exactly. I'm not sure that T should be used as any kind of test at all. Unlike estrogen, T's first effects are irreversible ones. Your voice will change forever. And your genitals will also change forever. And this typically happens in the first month or so. In fact, clitoral growth is almost overnight. I can see where this may be undesirable if one were to remain a woman - it is noticeable and does look as though you might be intersexed or been on heavy steroids. You will not have 'normal' looking female genitals anymore. There is also no telling just how much the voice will drop when it does. Time and dose is no factor - your voice could drop rapidly and you could become Barry White. Also not very practical if one wishes to remain female. Genetics determines what you get and you can never be sure of your genetics as likely no other men in your family are XX.

Not to scare anyone, that's certainly not my intention. Some people may just want the voice and/or clitoremegraphy and going on T for a just a bit may be exactly what they need. But, T should never be used as an HRT test as estrogen can. Your body will change forever and it can happen in as little as a week. This is another example of how advice and methods for MTFs cannot be applied to FTMs.

Hopefully this isn't to personal for you, but I'm curious.. what effects are you hoping to "avoid"?

understood just worried he might not get what he  bargained for and be devestated by the affect..

body hair will reverse, slowly. Not sure why facial hair doesn't, really - but it is common knowledge body hair does and facial doesn't.

Balding can reverse too, usually depends how dead the hair is, it can take years for a patch of baldness to be really dead and not just deactivated.

That's true, like how some don't want to pack. But when they try it, they like it. Maybe ill like the effects enough that the pros will outway the cons for me. But ill never know exactly until I try.
