From everything I read on cost and preperation, do you think it is feasable for me being 22 to recieve SRS by the time i'm 26? According to my math I should be able to save 20,000 in two to three years but...

According to others, *cough* parents *cough*, this is a unrealistic goal and I should aim more for 28-30. Thoughts? I'm aiming to stay in states as the standerd of care and protection is greater, of course that means a higher cost.

Anyone out there that managed to get SRS on their own in their 20's? How did you do it?

It could be possible if you plan to save $600.00 a month for three years, but you could do the same in less time investing in wall street with helpful and secret advice. ;)

Hi Ellisa...

Surgeons are always a personal choice and can depend on a number of factors, cost, location, geography, confidence in them and any special requirements...The main thing is to do the research.... get the ball park cost now and add say 10% for inflation.

Savings again, there are many routes, but go for a safe option rather than one with a bigger payback, but higher risk... I would rather take 5 years than aim for 2 and loose the money. You could also do this in the form of a loan... payable back over a longer number of years at a lower monthy payment (but overall greater price)

I had 5 surgeons on my original list and finally got down to 2 (one in Thailand and one in Canada), which coming from the UK said a lot for both the surgeons there and the poor standards of care.

In the end I went to Thailand as Dr Suporn had the best technique to deal with my errrr "lack of donor material" and the standards in both the hospitals and after care where fantastic.

Yes, it is feasable. If you have the money and you have gone through all of the hoops, I think that you could do it now if you had it all. You are an adult and you can make your own decisions. I went to Thailand for my surgery, I thought is was far superoir than the US doctors and the hospital. I have heard that Canada has a nice hospital too. Just got through talking with a friend who had her surgery i Dec. and she thought it was fantastic there.

Wait...I can take a loan out for SRS? ??? Noone ever said anything about that! :o

Well, as i've said, I plan for full time this January. My boss already knows and in october I come out to my coworkers in a Q&A session. I realize that inflation will occur, but the $20,000 was for taking a month off from work to recoup from the surgury. Right now my plan is to become a phlibotomist as I can get the certificate this spring while I wait for either an ambulance squad or paramedic school opening. Then I can go to RN school when I can go. *Shrugs* Or something like that.  ;)

But the checklist I know of is:

1.RLT
2.Name change
3.Finish hair removal
4.Voice? (Told my voice can go either way)
5.Money or SRS

I'm probably missing lots of steps, but I think this is the basics.
