Esp. before I started accepting myself, I was depressed IRL and found some solace in living on the internet - MMOs, forums, etc. Now it's better, but that might not be because of accepting myself, it might just be that I have a social life. xD

 I have a nice balance, and it's thanks to Apple. I'm online often but not always at home. I take a lot of online classes and they require a time investment of like 15 hours a week each if you want to even think about passing them...plus I keep a diary online and there's email and stuff. The classes used to really keep me chained to the puter but since I got my iTouch I've been able to go anywhere with wifi and do my coursework. It's nice and not as much of a drag as carrying a laptop around.

Really the only time I use my actual desktop anymore is for things that need Flashplayer or Powerpoint and papers.

I probably spend to much time on the internet..

I got about 20 forums I check.
One I own.
Three I help moderate.

And then I got my webcomics, IRC channels, Skypechat with 14 members, MSNM, ICQ, Y!, AOL, LJ, FB, Twitter, DA, Gaia, Lolcats, 3 email accounts, online school, online banking, and so on and so forth..

In my defense;
I've only got 3-4 people 'round "irl" that I enjoy the company of. Most the people I "like" are online.
I've got Fibro. Most of the time I would rather not move at all and just curl up in a dark corner in the bed and curse the world.. this way I'm atleast social while I do.
And! I do "work" on the computer while I'm online. I do a little bit of writing in between checking forums and junk.. so it's not like I'm just slacking off.
AND!...
I still got a "life" offline, and I still maintain that RL comes first and always will.. so it's not like this is just a way for me to not have to deal with the offline.

I spend too much time online, but I hate being online. I much prefer real contact. It's just that this semester has required my presence at school typically 5 days/week, I work 5 days/week, and my friends are a 70 mile round trip away from me. So... I don't get to hang out like I would if I lived in the city with them (which would be nearly every night because living at home has been a complete hell.)

Before I began the first phase of transition, accepting myself and aligning myself with the right people, oh god yes, nothing but the internet.

I'm going to vote for a nice balance.

Life where I live is so mundane and boring most of the time, especially this time of year when everything is frozen and "cabin fever" is just killer

I love being able to get online and interact with others from all over the world

But of coarse there are always 20 things that need to get done in between

So whether your online or out running about, your still living your lives. And it is interesting to hear what everyone is up to 

I work online and do most all my business transactions online. I own an online business. I have PayPal accounts in 2 countries and I own some 88 domain names (at last count), several of which are actual websites with content (mostly my art galleries). I own and operate and online fairy art forum. I create all my work on the computer and it is vital to have a fast internet connection. Most days I probably spend at least 2/3 of my waking hours on the computer, but I do balance that with a very rich real life, family, friends, and my partner. It's a useful and for me essential tool, but it's not my whole life. At least I rarely have time to be bored.

But if I spend all that time working on the internet, you gotta know I must get out to the mall occasionally for some real-life shopping

I think I have a good balance. I really don't have enough free time to spend "too much" time online. It's pretty much this place and facebook.

Yeah. i don't have much of a life


But, really. It's easier to find at least some acceptance online rather than IRL

I voted for the first option because I assumed you didn't really mean 24/7, but I think I spend way too much time on the internet, so much that it takes up most of my free time.

So I voted for that, because I feel it's gone beyond the stage of "Way too much".

In between my retirement from here and my injury the internet was something Id look forward to as a break from the rest of life. It makes a nice break.... Oh and just because it says I'm online it doesn't mean im physically here. I have a tendency to go AFK and do things while waiting for things to load or forgetting to turn my computer off when I leave the house.

Since my injury I've spent much more time online, but still have a bad tendency of going AFK or leaving my computer on while I'm not here... but overall. I can live with out the internet. I just prefer not to.

No worries Heartwood, 24/7 and "Way to much" mean the same thing

Everyone has to sleep at sometime or another and what would our cuddly things do if we didn't?

I've noticed an interesting split between internet and real life, depending on where I am.

At home, we still have dialup. So the internet is slow, and it's usually much more interesting to pop out and go somewhere/do something.

But currently, I go to university in a fairly small town (100 000 or so, very small compared to my city of two million), and there is nothing to do. 'Downtown' doesn't have the density to support buildings higher than three storeys, and the streets are frequently empty. Plus, this being a university, we have broadband.

Internet is now 1785 times faster than at home, plus no interesting things in town? Internet wins.

I'm starting to think my social life is online; with you lot as my friends and mentors. Don't know what I would do without you.

Because I'm a writer I am at my computer a lot of the time. I dip in and out of the net between short intense bursts of writing.

So I probably appear as if I'm online a lot. But actually it's only in little fragments between doing other things. So I reckon reasonably balanced.

When I'm not either writing or online I like taking long walks with my lover, cooking, swimming in our private swimming pool, or going to the cinema theatre or opera followed by a fine restaurant. And we travel quite a lot too.

I've been at home recoverin from my hysto.  I gotta be on the internet & watchin TV.  I got no choice. 
eatin 2 much 2.   That's gonna end the first wk of january when I go back 2 work though
