BRITISH theatregoers have taken to heart the Australian production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and given star Jason Donovan the triumphant return to the West End he craved.

The show, by Allan Scott and Stephan Elliott, who directed the film of the same name, collected seven nominations on Friday for this year's Whatsonstage.com Awards, including best new musical, as decided by theatregoers.

Donovan will go head to head with veteran actor Tony Sheldon for best actor in a musical, as will Clive Carter and Oliver Thornton for best supporting actor in a musical.
