Danica Patrick will be racing in some of the Nationwide races for JR Motorsports (Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Rick Hendrick).  She will continue to race Indy cars for the Andretti family.  GoDaddy will be her sponsor for both cars. 

I just may have to start watching NASCAR.  I am already a fan of Jimmy and Jeff.

I knew there were a few motorsports fans in here.

I think it is a great move for danica. She is a vey talented driver and I'm sure she will do great things in Nascar. She has already proven herself on the Indy circuit. She'll be great as long as she doesn't get dizzy driving in circles.

It will be interesting, the Nationwide cars are pretty much the same, on the basis of the old IROC series, so the driving makes more of a difference I think.  She drove well at Indy last year but in the end I just think that Hélio flat out had a faster car, and at the end, that's all that mattered.

I do not watch auto racing but I will say NOTHING, because I am such a baseball junkie.

I think it's only the start, Shes been talking about switching for a long time. Should make for some exciting races!

Why don't you guys (non-sexual) have F1. Corrupt, expensive, stupid, but at least you don't drive in circles.
I think, always a bad sign, that F1 drivers who go to NASCAR driving just wipe out the others. What is it about NASCAR driving? Just being rude 'cos I've just had a bad phone call, USA have NASCAR so they can be world champions in it  . Same as most sports. XX  are champions of the world. But they only play in USA.

Some F1 drivers have come over and done well, but not all of them, and the leaders still tend to be the people who grew up in the stock car tracks.  Currently, the deal is that there is more money in NASCAR than in any other motor sports, and people will follow the money.

But I do watch F1, and in the last few years the radical redesign of the cars, combined with the limits on engines have produced the same problem they have at NASCAR, the cars are just about even-Steven, and they have become so big that they can't pass on corners anymore.  So its become, like a lot of other racing, a jump to get out front, and then you can just hold it. Indy and the use of restrictor plates in NASCAR have created the same situation.

As for why we don't do it anymore, I don't know.  We had a few F1 races in Long Beach, Sebring, Riverside, over 20 at Watkins Glen.  Phoenix and Las Vegas, Dallas and Detroit have all tried to hold them.  Last one was at Indy in 2005, but that one was all sorts of messed up with problems in the turns and with the tires.

I think there is just not as much money in F1 in the USA as NASCAR has, and that makes a lot of difference, though this year I've noticed a ton of empty seats in the stands, especially in the Northern races (NASCAR was/is a traditionally Southern deal, centered around North Carolina, that evolved out of the moonshine runner days).

And not all NASCAR events are round and round - the one we hold here in Sonoma County in the heart of wine country, at Infineon Raceway that is a road course, it's called, naturally enough the Beer and Beaujolais race.

I was in a very bad mood last night.

Motor sport has sort of hit a low spot. A chicane in the first 500 meters, first to it can stay out in front as long as the car doesn't blow up. The expense of running a racing team at a top level has also been hit by the financial turn down. Even at a relatively low semi-professional level it is a very expensive 'sport'. Still not sure if it is a sport BTW. Bit like professional wrestling, entertainment yes, requires great skill, yes; sport? Not sure.

You are also correct about transfer from F1 to NASCAR, I think Nigel Mansell did well but not sure who else has. I know there are sons of F1 drivers doing well but that isn't the same thing at all.

Oh no problem, I don't even like NASCAR much anymore, 'cause I grew up when they actually raced 'stock' cars, and would pull over after a crash to have a fistfight over who caused it.  Good Times.

It's all so perfectly engineered these days that all the cars are going to go the distance pretty much unless they park it in the wall.  It's an awesome display to see live, no doubt about it.  The fourth turn at Daytona or the first turn at Indy, its worth the ticket for sure, but the outcome is not as uncertain as it once was, and that's kinda dull.
