My daughter is staying with me for awhile. My bathroom looks like a beauty supply store.

The cost of beauty is not cheep. Electrolysis will end up costing more than SRS
Sarah

I think the facial hair removal is only going to run me 4-5k at most. I haven't run tabs in a while but I'm getting pretty close to being done. I have to decide how much of the blond hair I want to go after.

It's estimated between 200 to 400 hrs. to remove facial hair. If the average is 300 x's what ever the price is. Think about it 300 x 50= 15000. I wish I could get it for that price

Oh, but you've got to go for electrolysis for the whole thing because of your hair :/

I did two years of laser before starting electro.

Oh man, I'm lucky in this that I want more hair. Those electro bills are absolutely absurd. Holy crap.

Definitely not looking forward to paying for HRT out-of-pocket. Chalk up one more minimum-wage-earning, insurance-less person ready to starve for a better shot at being happy in life.

I really feel for you girls. Your expenses other than GRS are much higher than ours, and there's more of them.

But hey - the only thing money is good for is making you happy (and meeting your basic living needs), so you might as well blow great big chunks of it on something that will make your life better in every way, every day, until you shrug off this mortal coil!

That's what keeps me going when totalling up the costs of transition, anyway :).

I cannot get my estrogen refilled.

Because it is a 'maintenance drug', they only allow two refills by pharmacy and the rest has to be through the mail order system. So much for temperature control.

I don't even know if I have to have my doctor mail the insurance company another prescription, or how long it takes for the meds to arrive, or what kind of cluster->-bleeped-<- I'm looking into. I'll get to call them on my lunch break today I guess.

And I was wondering what I was going to do with that 100 or so estrogen pills I had left from my old medication. Guess I'll be going back on those for a while til this is sorted out. And I thought that going to get a refill with 6 days of pills left was being prudent.

Edit: No way I can handle all of this on my lunch break from the looks of things.

Oh no, Autumn!  My insurance does the same thing.  But I just pay slightly more and continue to get refills at the pharmacy.  Worth a try.

Hugs!!!

As I posted in my other thread... look into it! It bodes to be a LOT cheaper to get it through the mail for me... as in, no insurance coverage at all retail, versus a significant price cut in the mail. Just... my doctor's closed for the holidays so I can't switch the script :(

Find family, or friends, who practice medicine.  I simply can't imagine paying all of that when it could be taken care of, for the most part, for a fraction of the cost.
  •

Autumn

Let me just go make friends with a pharmacist who feels like losing their license. Maybe I can give them ->-bleeped-<-s for estrogen.

So you have medical professionals in your family.

That's like saying "What's so hard about SRS? just get your trust fund to pay for it."

It's beyond insulting.

Wow! you folk do seem to pay a lot over there for everything. Our HRT prescription bills in the U.K are quite low in comparison. But to see a private psychiatrist here is about £180.00 per session (not sure what that is in dollars?). Laser here is also very expensive.

Well, freedom isn't free as some would have it.  And to be fair, our tax rates are lower, with lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of loopholes so that the more you make, the more you can keep.  And there are almost no restrictions or requirements for anyone to open a business.

Plus, you can buy all the guns you want.  So if your a little short on cash, let Misters Smith&Wesson do some collecting for you.

I go to Costco and buy 100 generic Estrace 2mg tabs for $10 and don't even use what little insurance coverage we have. Spiro comes from overseas because it is cheaper than Costco. I have a prescription for both. My doctor says she is advising patients with cost concerns to use the offshore pharmacies. She does my blood work and checkups for $110 every six months but now that I am post orchi, I go every year.  Basically, my HRT costs are trivial. Not everyone in the medical community is there for the money.
