Well yes, want me to tell you about it? OK.
We had done the big huge back to back weeks of the Dead at Calavares and the Oakland Auditorium which were killers, but right after the Oakland shows the Jerry Band was going to play acoustic bluegrass and electric sets up on the Ell River in very Northern California - in the heart of green bud country pretty much - so right after we finished the Oakland load out we jumped in the Jimmy and spun up to the Ell - about a 4 hour drive, no stops - and got a nice campsite right on the River (cause all the slugs went home to spend a night there before coming up the next day, loosers, anyway...) So the band was set up on a big old flatbed semi, and the campgrounds were the concert site, so we sort of ambled on over and caught the first set.
So, 90 minutes of bluegrass later, watching the sun roll over the redwood covered hills, the band broke for set change at which point eveyone (well, almost everyone) went down to the river, got naked - and I'm talking at least a few hundered people here - and proceeded to just have a good old naked time there splashing in the Ell River, diving, swimming - all that good naked river stuff. We all dragged ourselves out and more or less dressed and went back to the show where the Jerry Band electric started off playing And It Stoned Me, the old Van Morrison song.
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Hope it don't rain all day
Chorus:
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like jelly roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like goin home
And it stoned me
Just seemed perfect somehow, and at the next set break, everyone - and I do mean everyone - went down to the Ell and got naked there under the warm California Sun with the redwoods smiling down on us and Jerry playing for us. Acid was in there somewhere too.
