So, in an attempt to make some cash, I've been working with a friend of mine to make a video game for cell phones. When at the beginning of the game, I'd just come out to him as trans not too long before (a few weeks) and he was all cool with it...put our names on the game and used Chris, much to my glad surprise.
Lately he's been spiteful as we've been nearing the end and have a crapton of work to do. He's been using my birth name usually, which I let him get away with because he's still getting used to the idea. But now the only time he calls me Chris is when we're in the middle of a fight, and he uses it like an insult (in the same tone he would call someone a sh**head or whatnot). And now tonight, I find that he's reverted my name on the credits to my birthname, not my preferred name.
I called him on it and explained, no, I need this in my preferred name for my resume, as I'm changing it and I don't want the questions about it later, and told him to change it back. To which he replied, "It's not your legal name, go get it changed and THEN I'll change it after release." Which resulted in a big argument with him ending with "I'll think about changing it back if I feel like it, (femalename)".
This REALLY got under my skin, as if someone else has the right to decide what I'm called on something that ~I~ did half the work on. Never mind he put himself as his nickname, but then he argued it was just a shortening of his name....WELL, CHRIS IS JUST A RESPELLING/SHORTENING OF MY BIRTHNAME, YOU <I cannot control my vocabulary. Insert half hour of profanity here>!!!
