I hoped you watched (and if not, here it is below) Rachel Maddow take on one of the 'cure the gays' guys the other night.  Awesome.

MADDOW: OK. All right. Are you a licensed therapist?

COHEN: I have practiced psychotherapy under the requirements of every state that I've practiced in and resided in over the last 20 years. And I've helped thousands of men and women come out of homosexuality.

MADDOW: But you are not licensed?

COHEN: No, I'm not. But I've always practiced within the legal requirements of every state.

MADDOW: The American Counseling Association kicked you out in 2002

COHEN: Yes.

MADDOW: ... or 2003 for ethical reasons. Are you certified as any sort of clinician at all?

COHEN: The American Counseling Association - actually, I'm glad you brought that up. I'm a victim, Rachel, of a hate crime. They took the heinous complaint of one client and used that as an excuse to kick me out of their non-licensing trade organization. The acting president was a gay man. They don't like our work. And it's a lack of tolerance on their part. They don't allow people the right of self-determination to choose if they wish to come out of homosexuality. So shame on the ACA for their intolerance.

MADDOW: I will say that the ACA kicked you out because of ethical concerns about your financial relationship with your clients and using them to promote yourself ...

Ohh my there my little snowflakes, you could feel the butt hurt radiating from the computer screen.

I've seen that bonehead Cohen before, but he was less diplomatic then.  He seems to have toned down his prejudice a bit, although the book Rachael was reading from sounded more like the guy I saw earlier.

And I loved how he kept "reminding" her that she was "a homosexual" but it was nice to see she didn't even flinch.

This is what we're fighting, gross ignorance spewed out by self proclaimed professionals who can't even come up with any certification they are legit.  And there are people who believe this dolt!

I always ask the question: Why is it that people want to make gay people straight? Can't they just accept the fact that we are who we are!

No, you are an abomination unto the Lord and thus, in doing the Lord's work we are forced to smite you.  That's pretty much it.

What happened to the olden days, when the Lord would smite you himself? Now that he's the head of his giant multinational organization, he never does anything himself anymore; he just delegates. ^_^

Yeah, by this guy's ideology all the people I like are going to hell; so I may as well too. I'd be too lonely up in heaven if no one else is there with me.

I like the way he tried to dance around the "race" issue and ended up tripping over his own feet. Hilarious.

Well, really, the problem here is...

There are people who think everyone is like they are.  And if you're not... that's a problem (for them)

Add to that most people believe if they can't relate to you, YOU have a problem.

If we look at the real problem (you have to dig deep down into the psyche for this) we see those who fight that which they don't know, are fighting an irrational fear (phobia).  And we all know if you have a phobia you have a mental disorder.  (I love this!)

Rachael is a rock, and a cool one at that.   :icon_geekdance:

Reason them to death.

I've met plenty of atheists who think gay people are an Abomination unto the Laws of Nature.

People will use whatever excuse is readily available to excuse their bigotry. It's not about religion; it's about a blind acceptance of the dominant culture. And queer people are most certainly an Abomination unto the Dominant Culture.

But then, I think a big chunk of the Dominant Culture is an Abomination, period, so I guess we're even then.

My favorite answer to haters

Shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, all these are an abomination before the Lord, just as gays are an abomination. Why stop at protesting gay marriage? Bring all of God's law unto the heathens and the sodomites. We call upon all Christians to join the crusade against Long John Silver's and Red Lobster. Yea, even Popeye's shall be cleansed. The name of Bubba shall be anathema. We must stop the unbelievers from destroying the sanctity of our restaurants

Katie, that's cool and all, but if you're going to argue scripture with Christians who believe homosexuality is a sin, you're going to have to address the fact that (a) Jesus didn't keep kosher; (b) neither did early Christians, beginning in the early church period described in the book of the Acts of the Apostles; and (c) both Jesus and the early church condemned sexual deviance (commonly understood to include homosexuality), as described in the Gospels and in several of the Epistles. It's those references, not the Levitical law you're talking about, which (for reasons spelled out in great detail in, for example, Pau'ls epistle to the Romans) does not apply after Jesus.

So, it might be a fun joke for you to tell yourself, but don't try to pretend that your argument holds water. It turns out that Judaism and Christianity are actually two different religions.

It turns out that Judaism and Christianity are actually two different religions.

Upon further examination, it turns out that one of them is, in fact a monotheistic religion, and the other, despite claims to the contrary, is Trinitarian.
