it's not so bad the first 2 hours, but it wears a girl down after a while lol

I got some cream stuff from the chemist that's $80 for 30 grams and that helps. This is the place I'm going: Advanced Electrolysis Centre. You can see the prices on their pricing page- that's Australian dollars but not exactly cheap. The genital electro is about $40 more per hour.

Ever since the thought of genital electrolysis first occurred to me I've always wondered what the hell do you talk about with the person hunched over your crotch for hours on end? My electrologist likes to talk about psychology because I think she's trying to convert me to Scientology and "save me" the trouble of getting a Masters. I listen to her quackery and go along with her so she doesn't hurt me extra, but it seems like down there would be a little more awkward.

For the pain, I go for a few hundred milligrams of ibuprophen and a glass of wine half an hour before going in, some topical analgesic for my upper lip, and soothing music. It does the trick, but I need to concentrate. It still hurts a lot, and I need to get into a kind of zone. That's why I don't think I could deal with two people working at once. As long as someone is zapping my face, it's really hard to talk, so conversation tends to be pretty minimal.

Actually it wasn't awkward at all. She plays soothing music and we talk about everything under the sun, which is a very good way to remain distracted from the pain too. My eyes are covered which I think helps too. She's a total professional, and always makes me feel very at ease with the whole procedure.

I usually take a clonopin (sp) beforehand but gee, ibuprofen is an excellent idea- I take it for everything else it just didn't occur to me for that! Thanks Alyssa :)

QuoteWhat is Klonopin?

Klonopin is in a group of drugs called benzodiazepines (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peens). Clonazepam affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.

Klonopin is used to treat seizure disorders or panic disorder.

I was just at the doctor asking about this very thing yesterday. We are not amused.  :icon_tears:

I'm pretty sure it's just one or the other, not both at the same time.  As for the pain, she said they sell some kind of lidocaine cream to use before hand, but that 90% of the people she treats don't need it.  I'm a bit skeptical about the pain despite what everyone says... I've tweezed the whole thing before (above *and* below to be honest) and that wasn't particularly painful.  I'm sure the chin lip area will be rough, but I'm starting with the neck and I don't think that will be so terrible.

well I was prescribed them for my anxiety disorder in the first place, but they are very mild. Xanax is about 4 times as strong and usually just knocks me out completely. Klonopins I can take a half a 0.5 mg tablet, and it's just enough to take the edge off the anxiety and panic feels of laying there while 32 needles get systematically stuck in your face and crotch. It's no big deal, really.

32 needles

Do they stick them all in and then turn on the power? I'm lost, my person only uses one needle and zap at a time.

FairyGirl

each one is timed so that the power comes on about 5 seconds after each insertion, and they are inserted in rows, 16 to a side, working down from the top. By the time #32 is in place it's time to start removing #1, so it's pretty much a continual procedure of pokes and zaps for 3 straight hours at a time.

But the thought of being hair free, finally (on my face anyway), is plenty enough motivation to lay there and take it.

Wow I've never heard of that FairyGirl. I think I'd prefer that it sounds a bit quicker.

Hum...I pay $65 an hour in berkeley.  For me it will end up well over 100 hours, maybe 130-140 hours total, spread out over 3-1/2 years.  I had really dense hair on the chin and upper lip.  I had about 9 laser session about 2 years ago, but some of the darker hair came back this last year.  Oh the hours include oh 12-14 hours hum..down below....OUCH.  I used an oral numbing gell for that which only made it bareable.  Oh what fun..

Um, started out about $55 a hour, 5 years or so ago and 3 hrs a week for a bout a year. Got board with the results, a did laser over a two years package and lost about 85% of my facial hair. Now its back to electro but only about a hour a month for $70 an hour to get rid of the thin fringe just above my upper lip. So no not a short term investment, but less than other items. scthea

Cadillac Michigan I pay $24 for 30min with 15 min free.  So 45 min for $24 dollars.
Smile, everyone will wonder what you are up to.
