Does anybody know any websites that sell over the counter hormones in a way that is discreet enough that a delivery wouldn't be noticed by my roommate?  It's just idle curiosity, I'm nowhere near transitioning, I just wanna look around and I suck at finding resources.

The best way is to get a prescription and go to the local drugstore, Walmart, etc.  We do not give out websites to illegally obtain hormones that would be against the rules here.

Lots of sites that sell medications online are very risky in my opinion because you never know if what you are getting is legit. There are some reputable sites online but those require a script from your doctor.

Oh.  I was honestly starting to get the impression that they were legal, but in a socially frowned upon way.  But I guess my information's been gleaned from chans..... my bad.

I don't really plan on doing anything, just for the record.  I just think that a person needs to be fully informed about a situation from all possible angles.

Buying HRT over the internet is not a good idea. Buying drugs over the internet is dangerous and may not contain what you think it contains! I suggest another route..

There are legit ways to get certain pharmaceuticals possibly including hormones from online pharmacies but its hard to trust any of these and difficult to know exactly what you are getting. It is also NOT safe because you really want a doctor to monitor your health for you and do routine check ups to make sure everything is ok. I'd suggest finding a clinic that is willing to work with you and prescribe you hormones while checking out your health. (This is the route I am considering) This also is better because everyone is different as far as what they need and what there dosage should be. There is no universal dosage for hormones and everyone is different. Please be safe and never assume you are healthy enough to self medicate even if you've done your homework, doing so could be like playing with fire.

It depends on how you define "best".

It's so easy to say "just get a prescription", but some people, in some parts of the world, that can be a serious ordeal.

I still don't have a prescription for hormones and likely won't until April, and I started trying to get them in around September. That's 7 months from starting to actually getting, minimum. There's no other options as far as legal routes. There's only 1 or 2 doctors in the state that deal in TS issues, and only 1 or 2 competent therapists who understand it. And because of that, getting in to even talking to them is a several month wait.

Susan's rules for this site include:

8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its medications are permitted, with the following limitations:

A. Advocating for or against a specific medication or combinations of medications for personal gain is strictly prohibited.
B. Discussing the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription, and self medication without a doctor's care is prohibited.
C. Discussing dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.

I understand frustration in having to wait for something once you've made up your mind, but it is the only body you are going to get.  Don't risk screwing it up because you get impatient.  Any hormone treatment carries risks.  Those risks are much higher when using internet drugs without proper monitoring of the effects.

I would like to echo the points which Kate has made. In the UK it isn't actually illegal but it's still a very stupid thing to do indeed. Back in the early days (1970's) it is true that a few of us did take the risk but back then the risks were far less well appreciated. So please DON'T DO IT! Period.

In any case, I don't know what it is like in the rest of the world but here in the UK there are some therapists and doctors who are sympathetic to our situation and will often allow a cautious low dose trial of hormones at an early stage. (sometimes without the requirement to transtion first).

This is a far better route to go because a.) you do get proper medical supervision as part of the package and b.) when you take into account the exhorbitant prices that online pill vendors charge, paying the therapist for a private consultation and as a result getting the drugs properly prescribed will actually end up CHEAPER!

So rather than wasting time trying to buck the system - my advice is, if you are SURE you know what you want and just want to get on with it, do your homework and find a reputable private therapist who is sympathetic and prepared to be flexible. It IS possible. So there really is no need and no excuse for going the DIY route.

There are over the counter alternatives to prescription hormones which are totally legal but they aren't nearly as potent. Do some research on herbal HRT. And it is expensive!
