A Dream Deferred?

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

My dreams do all the above. I'm tired of setbacks, so I should know what it's like. Of course, I know you guys have had dreams deferred too. So, what happens?

Hm. In my (somewhat limited) experience, deferred dreams tend to taunt you...you work towards your dream, on and on and giving all you've got and just when you feel your dream will be realized, it doesn't. It stares you in the face wondering what happened. And when this taunting re-occurs again and again, you begin to wonder yourself what is wrong with you, or the dream, that it is not being achieved as you wished. You long for a solution but have difficulty finding it.

Hope this helps.
