'Walk On The Wild Side' was written about the ->-bleeped-<-s and transsexuals who hung around with artist Andy Warhole. The Velvet Underground also moved in these circles and Lou Reed wrote this song about his experiences from that earlier 60's Velvet Underground hippy era.

I loved that song and the whole early 1970's glam rock movement where you could grow your hair as long as you wanted and wear clothes that were as androgenous and as far as you could take them. It was 1972 and you could wear make up, nail vanish and wear high heels....and to a 12 year old kid like me this was the ticket and an early taste of what was to come....you could push the bounderies without a problem back then.

I was very influenced by David Bowie and the whole 'Ziggy Stardust' album and of course the classic Lou Reed album 'Transformer' where this song comes from.

Ah yes....David Bowie from the earlier era of 1969 with 'Space Oddity' .....and then re-released in 1975 and a hit for the second time. But who is the second video of? great song.....it sounds like Joe Jackson?

NB Joe Jackson

I was right then. I pretty much know Joe's writing style. I'm more familiar with his hits 'It's different for girls' and 'Is she really going out with him' from around 1979.

I am a little younger while never a big fan of his, I did love this song.

If I had a penny for my thoughts, I'd be a millionaire.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.
That the difference between me and the rest of the world! Happiness isn't good enough for me! I demand euphoria!

It's a nice song from Boyz to Men and reminds me a lot of George Michael (probably someone else before your time Kelli?)

Actually, that should have been George Micheal, and no not before my time. I am going to date myself here, most of my teenage adolescence was in the 80's. However I am a student of the arts, so I am familiar with music going back through most of the 20th century and classical. Unless it is something really obscure I've probably at least heard it. I mean I love Lou Reed and Bowie also.
