Hi and welcome

Clothes sizes vary from country to country and sadly for womens clothes from shop to shop. So you can try posting with what country you are in. There are also cloth size monitors and shoe size monitors or converters they may be called on the web just google them.

I'm about 5'7 weigh about 110, waist 30'' bust 38c. I wear size 8-10 skirts and about 16 tops. I'm in Australia. I take a 14C bra.

Easiest way to find out. Go to a shop and get measured. I know it sounds terrifying. There are lots of threads here about how to do it. And most shops really don't care I shop in drab and as Cindy all the time. Never had a problem

Welcome again

The reason women try on clothes so often is simply because there are no set standards. It's all approximate.

One of the very first jobs I had was in a factory which made women's clothes. Getting each piece the same is basically, impossible.

Added to that, women have an enormous variation in their shapes, especially the bumps, of which there are many.

Then, just to make things a bit more difficult, women have this tendency to be rather fussy about how they look.

As Cindy says, go around some clothing shops.

Be confident though. You are going in to spend your money and give them their income. You don't need to appologise for being there.

If some shop assistant isn't helpful, or gives you any sort of grief, walk out.

Their judgement is nothing. They are there to serve you.

Walk in, say what you want and look at the selection.

One point, try to get some idea of sizes. If they ask your bust size for example, medium isn't quite the answer.

Also, some idea of the sorts of colors you like is a good idea.

If you are in the UK, I think you would be about a size 12 in skirts or trousers.   The top half is a bit more complicated but I go for a size larger to allow for slightly broader shoulders.   I am a UK size 8 which equates to a European size 42.

It does annoy me that some manufacturers class a EU size 41 as a UK 8 when really it is a size 7.5.

Unlike mens clothes, female clothing sizes differ from one manufacturer to the next.   I am generally a size 14 but for some items I am a size 16.

I buy most of my clothes via the net because if they don't fit, I can return them for a different size or a refund.

Get a tape measure (any sewing/fabric store/section will have one) and follow along at the sites below, or any number of other sites.

Here's a useful link:

http://www.85b.org/bra_calc.php Bra size calculator. Complete with instructions and international sizes.

There's also a link for dress size conversions.

This one is for women's shoe sizes:

http://www.onlineconversion.com/clothing_shoes_womens.htm

This one shows you how to measure your own shoe size.

Best of luck.

Sorry, just noticed the previous post offered similar. My bad.

I am 5'7" and weigh 140 lbs and wear size 7 jeans. I use to guess my size but now I simply tell the clerk that the clothes are for me and I am a transsexual. I have never had a problem. Clothes sizes very widely so if you don't  actually try clothes on you will waste a lot of money. You should know that many stores are transgender friendly and I have had many clerks say " let me help you find the clothes that are right for you".

I just walked into the women's department of the store, started looking through the racks like I knew what I was doing. However, I do need to stay out of the "juniors" section. I found a pair of skinny jeans that fit well, but, they are a little "low rider" for my comfort. I have gained great sympathy for women looking for the right size, though. I have always been patient when shopping with some of my girl friends (being male, of course), but now, I have greater understanding. I am losing weight, though so shopping will continue to be fun for sizing.

There's a number of places on the internet that can tell you your size -- most online shopping sites will have a size chart which should be relatively accurate for the clothes they sell (but not necessarily for other sites).

Luckily you seem to be about my size (I'm 5'8", 135ish, 28 waist), so my recommendations for where to start would be:

underwear - size 5/small or 6/medium.  If you're just starting, you'll probably want to look into something called 'tucking', otherwise underwear purchases are all going to be frustrating and futile.

jeans: size 7 works for me, but I don't know how that translates to non-juniors sizing

shirts/dresses: size medium, maybe large if you're getting a dress that could potentially be too short (but 'too short' depends on you).

I am 5' 10", 145lbs, 30 inch waist ( Gotten heavier over the Winter ).  I wear a 38/42 B bra, size 8/10 jeans and skirts, size 16 tops and size 5 panties.  But I try on everything.

Sizes are all over the board.  There is no standardized size.  Even between Europe and America, there is no stand sizes.

That is why we women goes shopping.  To try on everything.
