So as a vegetarian of 2 1/2 years, I was wondering if you guys think that vegetarianism can in any way cut down on a trans guys "manliness." After all, in my experience, most of my fellow vegetarians have been lesbians. The last thing I want is to be continually read as a butch lesbian due to my eating habits, but I'm also not willing to give up my diet anytime soon. Thoughts?

(And yes, I'm aware of the "protein craving" that often comes with T. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, though.)

Well I'm a vegetarian and I don't really think it makes me less of a man.either.

There's a general opinion that vegetarians are feminine though as far as I know. But just like what's in your pants, most people don't really know what you don't eat. Nor do they really care for the most part.

First I ever heard of "vegetarianism" having anything to do with gender?

Taken from a vegetarian bodybuilder website. Not the best pic soz but the first I found lol.
IMO Animal protein (in the form of red meat) is bad for humans, the human body is better adapted to plant proteins, which the body can process quicker, better and take more nurtients from with less/no toxins or unneeded dangerous animal fat.
I'd say men are generally known to care less about their bodies/weight and health and cater to their taste buds that much is true.  :P

I can only think of one vegetarian that I know and he was probably the best looking guy I went to school with. We did take the piss out of him when he ate a cucumber sandwich though. But yeah he was about 6'2", really athletic and did I mention he was hot?

I know at least 5 guys who are vegetarians. I actually know more male vegetarians than female.

I've been a vegetarian for 1 year, 8 months now and have considered going vegan.  I've never felt like being veg is a feminine thing or having anything to do with gender really.  I will admit that I've known more female vegetarians than males, but I know more females in general anyway.

I don't think people would judge you that much on what you do or do not eat to be honest. Out of everyone I know there are more straight female vegetarians that lesbians. However I have met a few male vegetarians.

Plus when you pass 100% no one will question what you eat.

Vegetarians don't eat tuna.

Hell, they probably don't care now.

I'm 'forced vegetarian' ....my girlfriend is vegetarian and thus I have to be to avoid a huge fight over how I "like to kill animals for my own pleasure".

I do know of at least one instance where someone did switch pronouns with me once I said I was vegetarian, went from "he" to "she" as soon as that bit of info came out.

Oh dear. That's a little.. Well, I don't wanna make you mad by saying anything bad about your girlfriend. But I've never pressured anyone into being vegetarian. If they're considering it, yeah I'll give them information about it -- or even if they're not really considering it but are just curious. But I don't want people to try to bully me into eating meat, so I'm not gonna bully them into not eating it.

Sorry if that came off rant-ish.

Ah. That's exactly what I'm worried about. That someone's gonna find out I'm vegetarian (lol, I made it sound like I'm closeted about it or something) and be like "OH so she's just butch, not a dude..."

In her (slight) defense...she's never told me I had to not eat meat. In fact she says up and down I shouldn't eat vegetarian just to do it for her...but actually talking about eating it makes her queasy. She had a...bad experience as a child at a farm that kinda traumatized her. So choosing to be vegetarian is a preventative measure and saves me a lot of comforting and meals alone.

Hey! Cucumber sandwiches are delicious. I'm not even a vegetarian and I like them.

Eh. Can't say I've ever had one, but I'm not much of a fan of salad-on-a-bun-type vegetarian food. I want my food to taste like REAL food, and I find that's much easier when the food's actually warm.

How is it not real food? ;)

Cucumber sandwiches aren't exactly vegetarian food, they're just a sandwich that a vegetarian might eat.

So what's a "vegetarian" food then?  I ate faux meats before turning veg.  Is there any food that only vegs eat?  I honestly don't know the answer to this question.  Would tofu count?

I prefer hot meals over cold too, but I tend to eat more "salad-on-a-bun" food.  But that's just because I'm lazy and don't like cooking lol.

I don't think there's anything you can narrow down to 'vegetarian' food, aside from maybe the faux meat like you said. Food is food. A cucumber is just as much as a food as steak is.
