AweSAM!

I can't seem to decide where my actual hair starts and the facial portion of my sideburns start (not too sure how to phrase it). I beseech you for advice of any sort

My first laser session is on Monday, and I need some help to determine how high to go on the sideburns area. Here's a picture for reference. If you could just even draw a line on the picture and post it, where you believe everything below should be lasered, that would be a godsend. (I never grow out facial hair, that was just for the consultation)

Jan. 25 Update: I got the laser basically to the point where my ear meets my head.

Dana Lane

I started my laser last week but have been on HRT for about 8 months and my sideburns are feminized. On mine it was obvious where it was but I can't tell with yours. Are you on HRT?

just read your sig and see hrt a month so far.

Is the person doing your laser a doctor? Perhaps you can talk to him about it and if unsure don't go so high and get it later? Sorry I am not much help.

Hi Austen,
Women typically have no hair below where the ear attaches to the head.
Hope this helps.

Shave it and see how it looks, but from what I can see it looks like yeah, your'e going to want it nuked. You need to shave it before the laser anyway so you don't have anything to lose. Does the person doing your laser know you are trans? It might be worth mentioning if not. Have fun tomorrow  ;)

I told my laser tech that I was trans. No point in hiding it.

I wear glasses all of the time so I had her do to about 1/8" below where the frame of my glasses were. It is it the line where my ear meets my face it that makes sense. I asked her and she said it looked about correct for a GG.

My laser technician was very careful at the sideburns to get a feminised look.   If you do not tell them, they will leave your side burns intact.   I was also told to be really careful when shaving not to cut into the finer hairs as this would have an adverse effect on the first session.

When I went for my test patch , I was told not to shave as they wanted to see how massive the task there was to treat.   All other sessions I was told to shave to ensure that the hair follicle received the full force of the laser.

Now, with one session to go, my sideburns are gone and replaced by a much more feminine hairline.

My hair just needs to get longer so that I can wear it up with the sides tucked behind my ear or left to dangle.

I am extremely happy with the results.   The treatment was worth every penny.   Beware the checkerboard pattern chin a couple of weeks later!!!

The place I originally went, Sona, told me that they cannot create hair lines and I have to tell them where to do it.

That was obnoxious and challenging. But the reason was because they say that it's very easy to go up too high, or to get unnatural shapes. You do NOT want it blunted off and blocky.

Where I'm going now for mostly electro had no problem shaping it nicely. But then she had a lot more experience.

You may also try having a hair trim, and tell your stylist (if you're comfortable enough to be out about it) that you need a feminized line for laser... or tell her that you're doing some rocky horror event. Either way, a professional could probably shape it best.

My laser tech has had a lot of experience with MTFs.  She knew how to femminize the hairline near my ears without me indicating where or how.

I have been very upfront with everyone who has worked on me - laser, electrolysis, hairdresser, cosmetician, etc. - about being trans.  I've had good results.  In my experience they just want to know what you want.  Telling them you are trans helps them help you achieve your goal.  (YMMV)
