Should I ask HR about transgender policies?

I have a job interview at the end of next week, and I am very curious about the college's policies regarding us transfolks. The problem is I'm not "out," and I don't want to tell their HR people anything that could get me knocked out of contention for the job. What should I do?

Thoughts?

It depends.  How much do you want/need this job?  How soon are you planning to come out?  If the answer to A is "badly" or the answer to B is "It's gonna be a while" I wouldn't rock the boat until you get the job and they have gotten the chance to get to know you and like you.  The other question that comes to mind is, do you want to work for an institution that doesn't want or respect TG people?

Edit: A possible approach that just occurred to me is to just ask for a copy of their employee handbook.  Or ask more generally about their stance on employee diversity.

I BADLY need the job... ha ha. But I don't want to be at a school where they'll freak when I come out, deny me tenure, etc...

Hi. I'm also searching for a new job; one that is very TG friendly so that I can transition there comfortably. Someone, somewhere, posted this link in another thread... I'll pay it forward to you. ;)

The info on this site should give you at least a basic idea of how the company scores for tg benifits. I hope it turns out for the best for you.

Good luck at the interview!!
