Quotethe kill-everything-that-moves games
I've never really liked those genre of games personally.
I've never liked Doom or Half-Life and whatnot, but Halo is different. I'd NEVER played a modern console game before Halo, so the mystery of the story, the tease of trying to get to the next level to see what happens next (and the cut scenes)... was addicting. The scenery and environments are also amazing to explore. I never had any interest in these games before, but my friend convinced my wife to get it for me for my birthday. I hooked it up on a thursday night, played until 4am, muddled through work on friday... and didn't sleep or eat until sunday, I was just so LOST in it. I actually cried when I finally got to the ending cut-scene, just in appreciation for how *amazing* the whole thing is, the pride and workmanship and creativity that went into creating it.
Truth be told, there's a certain artistry in trying to perfect the technique of getting past the enemy. Curiously, after spending hours and dozens of lives trying to fight my way through them, I often find I can just run PAST them, no fighting, no shots fired.
There's a metaphor in there somewhere, lol...
