Gay film festivals bring many communities together, and one of the most exciting this spring is Kashish, the new Mumbai International Queer Film Festival.

Running from April 22 to 25, the festival will include many low-budget independent productions from India and the Diaspora.

The goal is to support the community and also educate mainstream society.

As co-director Sridhar Rangayan told the Hindustan Times, "I can talk and talk about a transgender's rights being violated, but when I show him or her (talking) about it personally, in the dark stillness of a movie theatre, the impact is unforgettable."
