How did this song manage to hit number 1 in January, and remain as number 1. And the artist is completely new, and she had very little live shows or exposures. I don't not know where she came from, but I watched the billboard charts and she was like climbing it like crazy.

What's the secret to that kind of success? The song is catchy but still there's no marketing behind it. She's not Britney Spears, and the last singer close to that is Lady Gaga. But Lady Gaga took months to reach number 1 with tons of exposure by the time she reached it with Christina Aguilera look alike.

Anyone has an idea how she did it?

reading over her wikipedia page is pretty interesting. apparently she broke into Prince's house to give him a demo tape.

I think this is one of those "is the airplay becuase this song is number one" or "is the song number 1 becuase of the airplay" types of songs in the sense that it seems to have been mass marketed by the record company to get the exposure it got so quickly. it gets a lot of play in the clubs for obvious reasons so that probably adds to the exposure it got.

Interesting, yeah it's probably the airplay that made it reach so fast. In my opinion I don't think she was even trying to imply transsexualism, since if she were to do that she would had more visual hints in her music video about that like she would put on a wig on or something which would of work if she were to say, "put my wig on, i'm out the door.." instead of "grab my glasses". I think that's just an interpretation.

I think Tik Tok is about to go down a notch soon since Black Eyed Peas song "Imma Be" hit number 2, so that song is probably going to hit number 1 next week.

I didn't really get the TG references either and it seemed it was reaching quite a bit, but it was an interesting analysis.

oh great, another BEP song to get annoyed with. LOL.  I like most of their songs, but they get so overplayed, so quick, that I usually wind up hating every BEP song. Tik Tok had a good run though, so I guess it's time.

Some people think the song is successful because another pop song, almost 10 years ago, had the exact same chords and was very popular.

I belive this song went to No 1 so quick because of air play, also she is such a different type of pop singer.
I also belive she is going to become the "t-pain" of autotune. I think because of the pop music she sings Autotune suits it very well and autotune is very very catchy!
