I'll say it:

Who cares?

and:

Non of your (ours) damn business!

Exactly. It's no one's business. The only reason people care is because they are homophobes and fear that being attracted to lady gaga would make them gay; and because people just like drama. People live for drama. So they make big deals of out things that have nothing to do with them just for the sake of entertainment.

Another celebrity I feel bad for is Tiger Woods. Ooooh, he's a sex addict, let's make a BIG FREAKING DEAL ABOUT IT! How about, no. It's not of our business, leave him alone to deal with it and his family.

Oh well, Humanities collective intelligence is slowly dropping, and we will probably blow ourselves up, or worse live like in the movie "idiocracy".

I'd never heard of her or even heard her music and someone asked me about whether or not she was etc. I Thought why should I know? Oh I get it, yeah nah never heard of her and doubt I'll ever hear her music either. And yeah none of my business.. even if I did know/like her music.

Well, it's not quite the same there. Tiger has used the good husband / father as part of his image to earn lots of money from endorsements. So in that sense, the fact that he isn't the saint that he portray himself to be is of legitimate interest to the public. Personally though, just play / broadcast some golf already (not that I would actually be watching it :D).

I don't care the slightest bit whether she's trans or IS. I get the impression she doesn't much care whether people think she is, either.

To be clear: I don't care, because either way, she rocks.

Are you suggesting there is truth in advertising :o

As an open question has anyone ever bought anything because it was endorsed by a 'celebrity'.

I was thinking should I go out and buy a TAG watch because Tiger wears one (Mmm wonder what he has been timing >:-))

Seems to me that a lot of these endorsments are a rip off.

As for Lady Ga Ga, easy; if anyone asked me if I had a penis or a vagina or would say yes

To the degree that in show biz, the only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about - really, so long as your not caught with live boy scouts or dead girl scouts - then it's all good.

And since fame runs on publicity like a car runs on gas, you have to give her props.  She's got people talking about her who don't even know her work, hell, they don't even know her, but they are talking about her.

And of course, she agrees with most of you.

The Fame Monster Lyrics

I can't help myself
I'm addicted to a life of material
It's some kind of joke
I'm obsessively opposed to the typical

All we care about is runway models
Cadillacs and liquor bottles
Give me something I wanna be
Retro glamor Hollywood, yes, we live for the

Fame, doin' it for the fame
'Cause we wanna live the life of the rich and famous
Fame, doin' it for the fame
'Cause we gotta taste for champagne and endless fortune

Fame, fame, baby, the fame, fame
We live for the fame, fame, baby, the fame, fame
Isn't it a shame, shame, baby? A shame, shame
In it for the fame, fame, baby, the fame, fame

I can see myself in the movies
With my picture in the city lights
Photograph, oh my mind and whatever else
You'd like to shoot you decide

All we care about is pornographic girls
On film and body plastic
Give me something I wanna see
Television and hot blonds in odd positions

Fame, doin' it for the fame
'Cause we wanna live the life of the rich and famous
Fame, doin' it for the fame
'Cause we gotta taste for champagne and endless fortune

Fame, fame, baby, the fame, fame
We live for the fame, fame, baby, the fame, fame
Isn't it a shame, shame, baby? A shame, shame
In it for the fame, fame, baby, the fame, fame

Don't ask me how or why
But I'm gonna make it happen this time
My teenage dream tonight
Yeah, I'm gonna make it happen this time

'Cause we gotta taste for champagne and endless fortune
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Bart Simpson sold me sooooo many Butterfingers. . .

. . .Okay, that's not true. I preferred Baby Ruth's when I was little (and before I ever saw The Goonies).

If she was, based on what I've seen of her and the public persona she's built for herself, wouldn't she just come out and say it? It's not like it would hurt her career at this point, in fact it would probably make her more famous. She seems to be treating the entire thing as a joke, and her background doesn't back it up. If she was trans, she would have had to transition at a very early age. Being intersexed is slightly more plausible, but I don't think she would hide it if she was.

Also, don't we not use the word hermaphrodite around here? That was my understanding anyway.

That's what I thought too.

I also agree that her being IS is more plausible than her being TG/TS, but really I wouldn't want someone to speculate about me so why speculate about someone else, even if they are a celebrity?

Well because they asked for it.  Fame has a price and it's pretty high, but so too are the rewards according to many.

The real funny part is I think that stuff comes in part from a feeling that Lady G must be a guy in some way, because women can't have that kind of talent, drive, and savvy.  (Madonna, who also got some of this crap, was in the same boat.)  The only way to explain her success is to think that she has to be a man in reality.

Most speculation about celebrities amounts to policing some social boundary, in this case, gender norms. Of course it doesn't make a difference to her. But it does to me, which is why I really appreciate the way she brushes it off or even encourages it. She denies not the accusation, but the implicit assumption that there's something wrong with being trans or IS.

I think Lady Gaga herself says it best: "When a guy says, 'Oh I ->-bleeped-<-ed all these chicks this week,' there's a high-five and giggling. But when a woman does it and its publicised or she's open about her sexuality or she's free or liberated, it's, 'Oh, she must have a dick.'"

ETA: I kind of love this rumor, to tell the truth. It has spawned some of the best quotes ever as well as prompting Gaga to appear on a magazine cover wearing a strap on. Win.

I'm pretty sure she isn't. Seems like she enjoys messing with the people who are too easily persuaded into believing stupid ->-bleeped-<-. And it probably gets her some publicity, too.

While on the topic of her image, she looked pretty "normal" in high school from the pictures I've seen.

If she is a trans/intersex, I'd definitely take a lesson from her in tucking!

Ehh. . . that outfit looks painful to me.

The way that she's been handling the trans/intersex rumors are pretty flippin' awesome.

Horses are hung like her!

I cannot stand pop music, period, but she is clearly very creative and talented, in charge of her whole production, and she's got great outfits. Her music is basically just boring electropop, but worse things have happened (i.e. Britney Spears' entire career).

And yes, you're right. These rumors are, as has been said, about policing boundaries, and those are boundaries over which she confidently steps.
